Anyone try these? Look like a slick system but I wonder if they could bite as well as the RCBS collet style.

Also, how is the RCBS hand held primer? I have always used feed tubes that came with the Chucker but have always read to toss them in the trash.
The RCBS looks hand as it uses the standard shell holders.

Thanks!

Noel

The Hornady collet puller works great. Haven't tried the RCBS version to compare the two. It should be similar, though. I don't even bother with my hammer type puller any more. :)

I have that puller. Works well - you can adjust it very precisely to grab without leaving marks.

I use my RCBS hand primer alot. I used the press mounted rig on my Lyman press for a short while, switched to the RCBS unit 10 years ago and havn't looked back. I load about between 1-2000 rds a year.

Hey Noely old boy ... Buy the Hornady puller. You'll love it. I've used both the Hornady and RCBS collet pullers and the Hornady is waaaay better.

Also, if you're looking for a hand primer, just go with the Lee job. I've been using mine for almost 20yrs with no problems ever and actually bought another to set up for small rifle primers instead of switching back and forth. They have a very good reputation amongst loaders.

Just do it ........ cuz I said!

OK.;) Does the Lee used standard shell holders as well?

A full set of the Lee Primer Tool shell holders is about $20 or a bit less.

Individual shell holders are about $3 each.

I like mine, too!

Here's the thing, some people really like Lee. So far, I am not one of them, but I haven't tried every one of their products. Those of you recommending the Lee tool, do you like other Lee products?

The Lee hand primer is one of their better tools and is my favourite Lee product. I've had good luck with their dies, but had a Lee press that failed. I use a brand mix for all my needs, not just sticking to one brand.

Lee hand primer, powder measure and dies
Hornady collet bullet puller and beam scale.
RCBS press and dies.
Lyman dies.

i love all my lee tools except maybe the beam scale....

the primer tool works great!

I have a couple sets of Lee dies. The lock ring seems kind of hokey but they work ok. Had I the choice I would get something else but you don't just go buy 41 Swiss dies.

I have their universal shell holder kit, I don't think you can wrong with it.

Trying to think back when I was but a wee lad getting a couple of old fellers at home to load my 30-06 cases for me. I think they even used the Lee primer. Boy I miss Gordon.

Paul, it looks like my tool set up will be very mixed bag too. It should help speed up the process if not make it a bit more enjoyable.

Cheers guys.:)

Put me in the mixed bag group as well. RCBS hand primer- cause I havn't tried anything else, Lee Collet dies and pwder dippers, redding body dies, lyman press, powder measure and VLD chamfering tool, Forster case trimmer. $35 on Ebay, w/every collet and pilot I'll ever need! I really like the idea of having a hand primer each set up for large and small primers. Been meaning to do it, but there have been other priorities.

Has anyone tried the lee auto prime that fits in press?

I have the hand press and it works great until you prime a 100+ cases at the same time and your thumb is sore from the pressure required to seat it properly. More so in new brass that hasn't accepted a primer before.

Ok Ok I sound like I'm whining:redface:

I think the lee press primer might work well.

I also have a mixed bunch of reloading tools. Red, green and orange but no blue at this point.

I have the Lee hand prime tool & the press mounted Autoprime II tool. I prefer the press mounted tool, as the hand primer makes my hand sore after priming 100 or so cases. The hand prime tool requires it's own shell holders. The press mounted primer uses standard shell holders. I haven't had any issues with either tool.

These are valid points. My loading system has changed. I'm not really doing 20 rounds daily anymore but more like 80-120ish spiratically. I guess it couldn't hurt to get both. It's not like they are that expensive.

This may sound crazy but has anyone ever tried making a mount on their press at accept a torque wrench for putting primers in with the press. was thinkning that might be a good way to get them in the same each time as long as the pockets are uniform.

I also have both. Both have their place. If I am only going to do a few quick (20 or so) I will use the hand prime. Usually I do things in batches of 400 (that's what my tumbler holds). I will clean 400, then clean 400 primer pockets, then inspect 400 with a lighted magnifying glass, then length trim, then prime, bag in 100's with dessicant until I am ready to load them.

This usually takes me about a week of evenings, sitting around watching TV for a couple of hours. I do about 400 a month. I currently have a few thousand of various calbres ready to go at any time.

I love Lee stuff for the most part. There are better products out there and I have them if I didn't like Lee's, but ALL of the Lee products do what they say. Load ammo cheap.

I, also, have a mixed bag of tools, depending on what I need to do. I used to set up 2 challenger presses and my RockChucker to do what I now do with the Lee Turret press.

Carry on, their stuff works and you can replace/upgrade as you decide something is better. However, if you have a buddy with something, borrow it and see if you actually like it first.
