Laws on building a tactical shotgun in Canada?

I have no use for one what-so-ever, but I do have an interest in putting one together.. So here are my questions:
1. Is it legal to own/posses a shotgun in Canada with a flashlight attached? (Locked in a gun safe, not outdoors)
2. Magazine extensions, are they legal?
3. Where does a guy get info on this kind of thing? I don't want to start a project that may land me in hot water, I enjoy my firearms too much.

Thanks! I have been reading as much as a guy can in an average day .. For the most part I have a pretty decent understanding of what people like, what works and what doesn't. I didn't find anything that pertained specifically to what I was after, my dial-up connection makes for a a pretty tough search though.
 
You can have a light on it. You can extend the magazine. The only restriction is barrel length (18.5 inches) unless the company makes one with a shorter barrel. If the barrel comes from the factory shorter than 18.5 inches, you are ok. Cutting the shotgun yourself so that the barrel is under 18.5 inches is a no-no.

also, if your shotgun is semi-automatic, the gun can only hold 5 rounds.

Best to buy a pump gun, extend the magazine, attach your flashlight and have at er....
 
3 shots or 5?

is it an ontario hunting reg that shotguns may not hold more than 3 rounds then? because all my shotguns were already plugged to hold no more than 3 shells (2 in mag and one in chamber)

Hunting regs across Canada restrict shotgun capacity to 2 + 1. But don't confuse hunting regs with firearms laws. Those regs onlu apply to hunting, not recreational shooting.

The law states that the maximum capacity for a semi-auto shotgun is 5 rounds, plus 1 in the chamber. There is no restriction whatsoever on pump shotguns.

It should be pointed out that not all provinces have the 2+1 reg for all types of hunting. NB for instance only has that reg when hunting waterfowl. Any other type of hunting allows you to fill the shotgun to its capacity.

I personally love hunting with eight rounds in my "tactical" shotgun. :)

Nova Scotia is the same as N.B. 2+1 for waterfowl, all other types of game - full capacity.

to clarify you can put on an aftermarket factory barrel on a pump and still remain unrestricted as long as the overall length is over 26 inches. ( the exact interpretation of the 26 inch OAL is in court right now but you're OK if you're over that) is Dlask Arms in Canada offers 870 barrels down to 8 3/8 inches (see my avatar). For semis the 18 (.5?) inch limit applies to stay unrestricted.
 
remington offers a variety of tactical shotguns - like the XCS marine magnum, and a slough of others.

benelli has an M4 series which is a little harder to get aftermarket parts for.

both are sweet though, all the guys in here deck out 870's, they know the ropes.

but in both cases, both have mag-extenders (predominately in the 870 series, such as the tactical magnum and the XCS)

browning offers a BPS with mag extender (20 in barrel) but its a ton of money and its #### compared to the remington or benelli

overall, remingtons 870 is great for a tactical cause you can get tons of stuff for it (look at KNOXX supplies, etc) and its essentially your "meat and potatoes" gun
