Winchester Model 2200

After going out skeet shooting for the first time a few weekends ago with a friend I have decided I need to buy a shotgun. Through conversations my boss told me he had an old Winchester model 2200 12 guage he wouldn't mind getting rid of. The shotgun is in brand new condition even though it was purchased 20+ years ago, only been shot a dozen or so times according to him. Now my question is if anyone has an idea as to what this shotgun should be worth or any other information about this particular model.

Forget about the 2200 and get a Remington 870.The whole 2200,1200,120 series of shotguns are in my opinion not as good as the 870.

The 2200 were plain but reliable shotguns. Hardwood (not walnut) stocks, and aluminum receiver.

I have a winchester model 1200 (same mechanicals as the 2200) that I have used hard for over 30 years. It has shot thousands of rounds of high velocity waterfowl shells including steel, grouse loads, slugs and buckshot. It has never failed. It is still tight and functions as well as the day i bought it.

In very good condition a model 2200 is worth approx $125-$150. Add $25 for a vent rib model, and another $25 if it has removable choke tubes (winchoke).

Don't get me wrong, I like the 870 Wingmaster and even the 870 Express when you get a decent one that they actually finished building before they shipped it.........

I think the Winchester 2200/1200/120 gets a bit of a bad rap. For instance a buddy of mine has been shooting an average of four rounds of skeet a week for the past six years with his two Winchester 1200's, one a 12 the other a 20. That's over thirty thousand shots between the two guns and he has zero parts breakage and I've never seen either gun jam.

My first shotgun was a Winchester 2200, bought used over 20 years ago, I still have it. It's never suffered a parts breakage or had any function issues. To be fair some of the old ones have the action bars poorly spot welded to the pump tube and the welds have been known to fail, however a bit of brazing and they don't break again (my gun came with the action bars already brazed to the pump tube where the spot welds failed).

In the condition you describe a 2200 would get $200 -$225 pretty quickly where I live.
