tika T3 light 223 or remington sps tactical 223 with houge stoc and 20 in barrel.

could you guys please tell me pro's and cons to both of these rifles.
I want one that will shoot 1inch groups at 100 yards and also is light to carry for hunting. also what are some pro's amd cons to having a detatchable mag or hinged floor plate.

thanks in advance

First of all, you should compare apples to apples. The Remington is a heavy barrel, 7.5 lb rifle. The T3 Lite is only 6 lbs, 3 oz and has a regular barrel.
You should compare the Remington to the T3 Varmint instead which is 8lbs and has the heavy barrel.
I can't speak for the Remington, but I own the Varmint and I can't say enough good things about it, but it's not really a gun that is at it's best shooting offhand. It's for shooting off a rest or bipod, pure and simple. If you are willing to find something to rest it on though, the accuracy is absolutely outstanding and worth the trouble. I can easily shoot less than one inch all day long with factory ammo at 100 yards with mine.
I don't think the T3 Lite will be quite as accurate, but it is much lighter and I'm sure will probably do 1 to 1.5" at 100 yards quite easily with factory ammo.
I don't have anything against Remingtons, but I prefer the Tikkas hands down.
The detachable mag is very much the way to go. You don't end up with your rounds falling all over if you want to quickly unload, and in spite of what some people will try and tell you, the mag isn't easily dropped or broken. I've had no issue with mine and find it funny to watch my friend that has a Savage Predator pick up all his dropped cartridges when he "unloads" his rifle.
Hands down, go with the Tikka.

I've only seen one T3 lite fired at the range by my friend, and with factory ww ammo it shot consistent 1/2" or smaller at 100m. Excellent for any rifle and amazing for a sporter. The t3 will be lighter to carry and should add 60fps to your velocity.

I forgot to mention that I don't want anything longer than a 22in barrel.
as for the weight I think both guns would carry well. is there any advatages to a hinged floor plate mag?

None that I can think of... other than the fact that there's no magazine to stick out the bottom.

Why the 22" specification? Two more inches and you get a lot better accuracy.

shorter in the bush, I would prefer 20in but will stretch to 22in

have a T3 lite, and it's a tac driver.
Before i made a decision, i was looking at three:
Tikka T3
Remington SPS
Savage 12 FV w/accutrigger

Savage is easier on the pocketbook, well made, and gives you more funds to put into optics. Also, don't forget the barrel twist, the 1/8 is a must for 70 grainers.

Curious what type of hunting you were thinking of doing? Since you say .223 my guess is varmint then? Depending on the bullet weights you will be shooting I think twist rate becomes pretty important for accuracy. I have been told 1:9 is you happy midle ground. 1:12 for your light 30-45gr and 1:8 fo anything over 60gr. I could be out to lunch!

I believe all the newer Tikka T-3 Lites in 223 have the 1-8 twist while the earlier ones were 1-12".

This is correct.

The 1:12" can handle bullets accurately up 60 gr with the sweet spot at 45-55gr. The 1:8" on the other hand shoots well for anything 55 gr and up.

For varmint and predator hunting, 50-60 gr bullets is sufficient.

Heavier bullets would be for good windy days and long range shooting (>300 yds). However they don’t fly as flat and one needs more practice for longer range shots.

I can't believe I said more practice. :D:D:D

yep, 1:8 sounds right ( i said 1:9 and stand corrected) My point was if your going to be shooting heavy, check the twist. If want to shoot 55 grainers, then use a 1:12. This reason, plus the light weight of the Tikka, is why i bought it at the time.

Sorry I was wrong in saying 1:9, however even in the new Tikka T3 lite you have the choice of 1:8 or 1:12 twist rates. I just got a new one and it is 1:12. So I guess it gives you another option for a new rifle if you so choose!

I believe Stoeger Canada has stopped importing 233 with 1:12" barrels in 2006. You may have picked up a new rifle that has been sitting on the shelf. I am not sure you have the option to order the 1:12” starting in 2007.

Did you know that was 1:12” when you purchase it or did you find out after you got home? My friend found out when he got home. He is just as happy as it shoots ¾ MOA with 50 and 55 gr.

Tikka rifles are the best values you can find in the market. There are many happy owns.

Just curious, are you guys that are getting new T-3 with a 1-12" twist, are they by any chance Varmint rifles? I was thinkin maybe the V rifles use the slower twist & Lites use the 1-8" ??

My friend has the 1:12" with his T3 SS Varmint HB. That rifle is dead accurate.
