Can somebody please help me with a barrel length choice?
How does barrel length affect accuracy?
How much more accurate will a 22" barreled bolt gun be than a 16.5" barreled pump gun be in .223?

Actually, unless you are using iron sights, barrel length has little or no effect on accuracy. Because they are generally stiffer, short barrels can be every bit as accurate as a longer one. Long barrels add velocity, not accuracy. However, the bolt action will likely be slightly more accurate than will that pump action, simply due to bedding, etc. That being said, I have seen some Remington pumps that delivered surprising accuracy.
I personally have no use for barrels shorter than 22", but in some tight situations, a short barrel is an advantage. Regards, Eagleye.

With all things being equal there is no credable information to suggest that a particular barrel length is more accurate than another. Your pet loading may change with length due to harmonics changes.

On the second count I see your now talking facotry rifles. The shorty Remmy pumps are a special purpose tool, they are a short to close range almost CQB type of rifle, and therefore expect their perfomrance in the accuracy department to be as such.

But with that in mind on any given day any one type of rifle may out perform another in the accuracy department.

In other words accuracy is not a cast in stone sort of issue. It depends on so many variables that somedays you just got to put your money down and play the odds.

Odds are a specialty tactical/varmint type rifle should and most often will out perform a shot barreld CQB rifle in the accuracy depatment.

Note : I said most often and should.

YMMV

Im looking at a remington 7615 with a 16.5" barrel in 223 for coyotes. This is a police version of the 7600 and im concerned with the accuracy out to 300 yards.

Im sure it will be plenty accurate for that...I know this is none of my business but a 16.5" pump gun doesnt' actually scream special purpose Coyote gun. Each to their own....as you long as you like it.

If you are worried about accuracy and velocity loss from a short barrelled pump gun just pick up a bolt gun in the same cal with a 22" barrel and be done with it. I owned a cheap Stevens 200 that could easily do it out of the box.
