No black powder makers in Canada?

None in Canada AFAIK...economics most likely. Buy goex at 14$/lb. Canadian manufacturer would probably be more.

I doubt that there is demand for the kind of volumes that would make it profitable in this country.
Might seem like a fairly simple thing to produce but the devil is in the details. Quality and consistency are harder to achieve than one would expect from what I've read. Safety and legislative hurdles would also be quite formidable too I'm thinking. The gov. would probably start with the idea that you are a terrorist if you applied for approval and require you to prove otherwise in a thousand different ways.

Yer gonna have to tell us where you are buying Goex for $14 a pound, if you are going to throw that number around.
$25 a pound where I shop. When they have it, and without buying enough that Homeland Security starts looking at you crooked.

I ran into a guy a while back, and started talking pyrotechnics with him (he was interested in the metal scraps we had in our bin). He said that work is being done to legalize the amateur Pyrotechnics hobby in this country. This would mean that making BP and color mixtures would no longer be illegal for the home folks.
Good if it goes.

I buy from the distributor in ON. Every couple years pick up a case. AFAIK all the provincial distributors will sell to private individuals. The guys in my club who only shoot a little will go in on a case, but I buy a full one for myself.Ante up, j-v!

Some of the black powder clubs in Alberta do bulk orders each year and get powder in for under $20 per lb. They order hundreds of lb's to help defray the shipping and dangerous goods charges and a lot of people order bulk which comes in 25lb boxes rather than the nice cans.
Go to the gun shows and talk to anyone there that has a lot of BP supplies. They may be able to point you in the right direction.

Thats strange, the distributor ON sells to me same as dealer price unless the price just went up drastically. He was also giving me loose or canned for the same price. Maybe I should have bought more. I hate to sound like a broken record but here in Eastern Ontario I am paying $31.00 per pound and that was at least a year ago! I am on the border with New York and buy mine there legally at $12.95 per pound US funds.....Goex. Swiss was $18.95 per pound in the US the last I bought....two years ago and I couldn't even get it here. I am all for buying Canadian but when you hit a wall?
