m&p how good are they?

for those of you who are having mag release issues contact smith and wesson. I had the same problem with mine and they sent me a new mag release for free. The new part fits much tighter and I haven't had a mag drop since. So far my m&p40 has been an excellent shooter. I'd recomend the gun to anyone.
 
My M&P9 has also worked flawlessly so far. I haven't used it much (approx. 1,200 rounds with cheap factory loads) but not a single hick-up. I like the weight and the design. It's a reliable gun and the grip is very comfortable.
 
I have all models of the M&P in 9mm, 40 & 45acp full size and compact without the mag safety or manual safety.

Have nothing but 100% to say about them after many thousands of rounds.

Reliable and accurate.

Better than Glock? That is a personal opinion. I have owned 4 Glocks and sold them to get the M&P's after test firing one. My reason for swapping was a better fit to my hands and shootability plus I was tired of shooting a brick. The dependability and accuracy from my experience is equal.

ok, I'll take a look around.... part of it is because the rear sight is more open than anything else I have, but even using a rest, its less accurate. at 15 and 20 yards the impact zone is randomly distributed within a six inch circle, the Norkarev at the same distance stays in a nice tight grouping of about 3 inches

so to answer whoever it was, yes I blame the MP9 for being a horrible shot, if it was just me, then I'd be a lousy shot with my K100, 1911, and Norkarev as well
 
I'm a righty and reversed it because I found it faster to use my trigger finger to hit the mag release. JMB got it wrong with the 1911 and eveeryone else just followed suit.

If you have small hands - you will love it.
I found after about 300 or so rounds, if left uncleaned, it would FTF - where as my G17 would fire but FTE in the same state of dirt.

My only (yet big) complaint is the 10 round magazine design. The 2 piece mags they ship with them are known to break in two due to the plastic base.

I am fine dropping the mag free on the ground outdoors, but certainly not indoors, on concrete. An all metal or all plastic exterior mag would be a much better way to go design-wise for this pistol.

Also, it can be tricky to find mags and holsters for it. Otherwise, a great buy - alot easier for most smaller hand (i.e. female) shooters to get good consistent groupings with.

All in all, they are the Glock 2.0 (at least until Glock wisens up and offers replaceable backstraps).
 
I found like 15 or 16 holsters for the M&P.... I wanted one I now have 2, and one on order. I couldn't decide which one I wanted! lol!! I found some on Questar, S&W.com and a whole bunch on e-bay, just fyi. Check out this thread

Only if you are looking in Tibet. All the major holster makers make holsters for the M&P. I have it on good authority S&W has no shortage of mags for sale.

Also great for guys with big mitts. The changeable grips work for just about any size of hand. The M&P has a much better grip than any of the Glock iterations I have held. Sights are made of metal not plastic as are the mags both of which are improvements over the Glock..

If you can find a Glock that fits your hand than go Glock. If you can't, the S&W M&P is a very good pistol to look at.

M&p 40

I have had one for almost two years, and I love it. I really like its weight, and the angulation of the barrel to the grip - when I draw it, I am looking down the sights. Works for me! Good luck.
 
I have put about 750-800 rounds through my 9mm with no issues. It is not as accurate as my Hi-powers were but I have no trouple keeping shots in the A-zone on target which is what it was intended for.

You're using a smaller backstrap than you need, switch up a size (if possible) and the rounds will move up and on centre. Most of the folks who say the pistol shoots low and left are using the small backstrap because it feels better, but end up crowding the trigger, if they go up to medium the gun shoots to POA. You should try all of the backstraps before settling on one. As far as mags go, all of the 45 mags are steel. The 45 is full capacity with 10 rounds so no filler required.
In the holster department I'd highly recommend Raven Concealment Systems - they make great stuff and even have M&P holsters for use with lights, if you're into that.

Hey Ian, I've tried all three backstraps with it (possibly on advice from yourself about a year ago) I use the mid sized one, as its closest to the same fit and feel of my K100, the smaller and larger backstraps that came with the mp9 dont seem to affect the accuracy

Wow, that's odd - you really think there's too much room around the front sight? Try measuring the front sight and rear notch it could be yours are out of spec?

I'll qualify - I hadn't been able to find any Safariland holsters for it - at least never at Dave's :) SL snobbery, I guess.

You must be joking on the mag design right - or did they change in the last year away from the 2 piece 10 round mags? I've beaten the snot out of the G17 mags and have yet to have anything beyond a scuff on them, where as I've already lost 2 M&P 10 rnd mags due to a failure between the plastic and metal parts. I have one hicap pinned M&P mag and that is the proper design, full metal body, not this half and half business.
 
I have a M&P 9mm.

Actually bought it for my wife to shoot with me at the range. It ain't a girl gun by any measure though. The adjustable palm swells are perfect though to help fit a ladies' hands, and it's a 30 second job to swap the mag release to LH as she's a lefty. Not had a problem with it, and it's shot extensively every other week.

Good point made on the WinClean ammo too.
