I need your input on my new precision varmint rig

I am looking to buy a .223 for gophers. I am asking for your input.

I plan on floating the barrel, bedding the action and cleaning up the trigger. I have a decent scope already, 15x super sniper. This gun would be exclusively shot from a bi-pod in the field all day long.

Requirements:
- I will be shooting out to 300 yards
- I will be shooting my reloads
- It must be very accurate (sub MOA at 300 yards)
- must be .223
- Heavy barrel is no problem, I actually like them.
- I am thinking of spending up to 1500.00 (including a good set of rings)


What brand/model of gun would you recommend?
 
I'm hoping to be doing the same thing this Summer. I have a Model 12 LPV in .223 on the way.

Savage LRPV with target trigger (I have one myself sans target trigger) or any of the Heavy barreled Rem's should suffice.

The Remington 700 SPS Varmint is great value. Pay a little extra and upgrade the trigger to a rifle basix or a shilen. Put the rest of the funds towards some good reloading equipment.

I have one in 204 and really like it. Lots of upgrade options down the road too. Don't overlook Savage rifles either.
 
Remington 700 with a heavy barrel and a laminated stock. Spend $50 to have the trigger worked to a crisp 2 pounds... as good as the replacements that cost $100 more.
 
I've got a Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .22-250. I was going to drop a few bucks on an upgraded stock, but instead I'm just going to bed it this weekend and stiffen the foreend with some arrow shafts set in bedding compound. I'll be replacing the trigger in the spring, and I probably won't do to much else with it. I'm using a Bushnell 3200 3-9x40, I usually set it on 4x, most of my shots on coyotes this year have been inside 150 yards. Good luck building your rig.
 
This gun would suite requirments by a long shot. Rem 700 xcr Longrange Tactical the trinyte finnish is the best protection I have seen on any rifle, bolt works like it was in butter. just over 8lbs, My gun will shoot 69 & 75gr bullets under the inch at 300y off bench when I do my part. Lots of punch for coyotes. Bell & Carlson stock is comfortable to shoot.
There are still some in available in 2008 models. Friend shot mine last Sunday and picked up one in Montreal on Wed.

Varmint .223 ideas

Try to find a used Remington XR 100 in .223 like Jr.s rifle.
The accuracy on this one is just silly,,,,, but it does have a custom barrell.
Trigger is a timney.
