.22LR Precision Rifle

I had a savage MkII as well. brand new one from 2008. Really Really good gun and love that acutrigger. However it was best as a single shot. its clip jammed like a mother *#& $%. But still very accurate and a good price.

If you are interested I have a CIL/Anschutz 190 in the EE right now. Asking $450 shipped. Rifle is very accurate and has features (ie 2 stage trigger, match chamber,target stock and forend rail) which optimize precision shooting.

For those who are interested in the best rimfire accuracy, my understanding is that Ted Gaillard makes a rimfire barrel. This choice will cause the cost to exceed what is normally expected of a .22 rimfire, but accuracy comes at a price. The trick will be to find an action that is worthy of the barrel, but an Anschutz M-54, an early Brno, a Winchester M-52, or a 40X would be top pics.
 
Boomer, these Gaillard barrels I don't suppose they are drop ins but rather require a smith to install them.

Do you know? or know anyone who has used one.?

I've owned a centerfire Gaillard barrel, and it remains the 2nd most accurate barrel I've ever owned. A custom barrel does require a gunsmith to thread the barrel for your action and cut the crown. Depending on the contour of barrel you choose, the stock may have to be relieved as well.
 
This is interesting and a custom reamer should be used. There is lots of info. on benchrest central on this. would like to do this myself and we should keep in touch.

My dream build for a BR rimfire is on an Annie 54 action, with a Benchmark barrel (apparently one of the best in BR rimfire), and a Robertson BR stock. A long-term project to be sure... :D

I had no idea Gaillard makes a 22LR barrel. I have had experience with a 25-06 barrel of his and the accuracy is excellent.
 
TBA has a way cool .22lr M40a1ish rifle...might be fun to build given enough money, time and desire. Uses a Ruger receiver.

These look great!The unfortunate part here is the Ruger receiver and trigger. I'm putting together a 40x with an A5 stock and trigger from Ian Robertson. Unfortunate thing with a 40x is it's single shot. Hope to have everything together in a couple of weeks. Pics soon!
 
Try a good old Cooey. I picked up a model 60 with the 10rd tube mag for dirt cheap, bead blasted the rust off it, custom camo spray bomb paint, and a Cabelas 3-12X40 BDC turret scope. Headshots on grouse at 75yd, eggs @ 100, and pop cans @ 200 with Federal ammo and little or no wind. Crappy trigger though.

There are quite a few different reamer designs out there.

From what I understand some of the match chambers are so tight that (once you chamber a round) you can not extract it until fired. My late friend had a rifle so chambered and mentioned several times that he hated it.

From what I understand the Bentz style reamers (no Stingers) offer the best all around accuracy and still allow live round extraction.

I'd be curious as to hands on experiences here.
 
Hvy Barrel Gevarm TGT Rifle with the globe sights works well and the israeli BSA .22 Mk3 enfield for history.

Good cheap answer. Why not work the trigger a little. mine has a wonderful light weight break, with very little creep
 
What about the Sako Quad? I was thinking anout getting one with the .22 long bbl, I have not had a chance to handle one yet but they look like a nice rifle. Are they worth the money?

At the asking price for a Sako Quad you are getting into some pretty nice rifles....Anschutz for instance.

Not a bad rifle, but it's not the rifle the old Finfire was IMHO.
