Does the Russain SKS comes in box?

The top pic looks like Yugo SKS, and even their Yugo/Mauser ammo cases, they are not Russian.

The bottom pic looks more promising. :D

Of course, I was just showing off, The Yugos are all gone Just the ruskies, more on the way :D

A quick question for you:

Since you have bought several sks already have you ever come across an unissued one?

What do I expect to pay if I am looking for one?

Thx

The box you see in your picture is used and supplied by the USA importers, not Canada. My SKS came with standard accessories and wrapped in cardboard sheeting plus shrink wrapped. The Americans have turned into major SKS collectors as the Clinton Administration banned importing and the prices there have jumped to $700 or more at gun shows, having the USA box, for a seller, is an additional bonus.

Is this still the law, and does it apply only to SKS?
Or to all Russian rifles like the SVT?
Or is the SKS considered an "assault rifle"

If you can find an unissued at a Dealer look at paying close to $300 plus tax and shipping or more. If it's from someone that has it and does'nt know what it is,you'd be lucky to get it for under $300. But if they know what it is.............?

its not a law , rather a trade agreement whereby SKS and others were excluded from the importation into the US . IIRC , the agreement expired in 2004 but george bush extended it .

Since the same administration had recently cut off the SKS supply from China, the Russian surplus carbines got an enthusiastic welcome, especially since they turned out to be much better made than the Norincos. Large shipments were brought in and found a ready market, though never in quite the same numbers as the Chinese models.

Unfortunately it didn't last. Relations with the new Russian government were uneven; there was also the inevitable outcry from the hoplophobe activists over the importation of more of those wicked "assault weapons." At one point all munitions imports from Russia were banned. Eventually, in 1996, a new trade agreement was reached which allowed the importation of many Russian-made gun products - including 7.62x39mm. ammunition - but specifically excluded certain firearms, including the SKS.

Thanks for the info Curtton. I should have asked you first.:)
That was an interesting read on the link you posted. Amazing how goofy some of the US law is. Especially the part about not being allowed to put a bayo on a Chinese one, and yet not being allowed to remove a bayo from a Yugo one!

How is the law on the SVT in the US? With Tradex having a bunch of Russian refurbs, I have to wonder if they are not allowed into the US now. If they were, the huge US market would have taken everything and left none for us perhaps. (Just conjecture on my part.)

Thanks for the list!

I might try calling them but as I recall most if not all unissued (if any) were spoken for and most dealer got their sks sold out never mind refurbished or unissued.

Let's hope the next shipment arrive with some good news;)

Still some here

I just got my SVT-40 from Frontier day before yesterday and last I heard they still have some (see my post "Russion Collection). Check out the sponsers and if no luck do a google search. I found a supplier with about 20 for sale if you just have to have one (like me), their around.

i have one from Tradex already, thanks.
I am writing an article on both the SVT and SKS that are being imported, that is why I was curious about the US law.

I am looking forward to the article. You cannot have enough information in life and I have really latched onto the history and nuances of these rifles as much as having and shooting them.

It will be for an upcoming issue of the CSSA magazine.
I'll probably be leaning on some of the more knowledgeable members here for background info!
