10 round LAR-9 9mm magazines in TP9?

Just by looking at the mags, I would say no - the 10r nd LAR-9 pistol mag will not fit properly in the B&T TP9. I'll take another look at the TP9 when I get home tonight, but I'm pretty sure the answer is no. I suppose you might be able to notch, shim and extend the LAR-9 pistol mag or modify the mag well in the TP9 and attach some type of mag extension. Either way, it would be a PITA and may render the LAR-9 pistol mag a prohibited device. It would be interesting to know the legality of modifying a pistol mag.

Yes, as long as you don't modify it. You might then be considered to have re-manufactured/designed for a new gun, in this case a semi-automatic rifle.

Show me where it says that I can't modify a mag to fit in something else WITH OUT changing its original capacity and I will stand corrected.

At first, I thought about making a metal mag extension for the LAR mag that would act as a shim as well - basically a long metal sleeve with the slot for the mag lock to engage. So basically, you'd drop the mag into the sleeve, lock it in place, then slide it into the magwell. I believe the top (lips & follower) of the mag would work as is. I wouldn't be changing the design of the mag - just making an adapter. Capacity would remain at 10 rounds. Would such an adapter be legal?

I can't show you that. However, it is the conventional wisdom. Try this: modify a bolt mag until it will fit an AR15, then ask the RCMP Firearms Support Services Directorate what they think. They are the people who approved the 10-round AR pistol mags.

If that is actually the case it would define "manufactured" and "designed". If it was interpreted that way you then could weld up the little hole in the front of an M14 mag thereby making it "designed and manufactured" for an AIA. Then you could use it in the M14 since it was a bolt gun mag. Or a Bren mag modded for an LE, etc, etc.

AFAIK, there has been no clarification or challenge of what those two terms mean. As written, you could interpret it your way or the one I describe above.

It's an interesting situation, to be sure.

That might be possible, if you then stamped or otherwise permanently marked the mag for the AIA (based on the Berettat Storm marked/not marked ruling). As you say, interesting.
