heres a pic of a couple new additions to my collection in this order
9422mag
9422 trapper
94 trapper 357mag
94 trapper 44mag

I quick question to others with the 357's and 44's. What kind of bullets do you find feed the best and are there any I should stay away from?
thanks

I used to own a Winchester 94 trapper in .44 magnum back in Ontario. I used Federal 240gr JHP for the deer season. Never bagged one but if I had, one shot would have been enough.
With the irons I hit a bic lighter off a fence post at about 50 yrds.
The only reason I got rid of it, was when unloading back at the hunt camp...when the feed ramp flipped up the 2nd last round, the last round in the ammo tube would ALWAYS pop out under the ramp preventing the lever from being completely cycled. Making it neccessary to dis-assemble the gun on the table.
Sadly...I traded that gun on a Norc Sks back in '86. :( Wish I still had it.

Gunsmith

Rick if your gun was "jumping" the shell holder, it means you should have had a gunsmith look at it and lengthen it. I had the same problem and it has nothing to do with the bullets. Glad I kept mine and now it is working great.

A winni 94 in .357/.38 is the most useless gun in the world for Cowboy Shooting. They have a tendency to stove pipe when being fired fast. I switched to a Marlin 94CB, 94C and a Rossi 92 all in .357/.38 and never looked back.

could it of just been your gun or have you read that about all of them??
mine seems to function fine but then again I haven't cycled it really fast repeativly(if thats a word) yet.

well I just shot the 44 mag today and what a gun! I was smacking the 100yard gong almost every time with open sights standing. It does have a little more punch than I thought though. As much as I love it I will probally shoot the 357 more often because of cost of ammo and it is just as fun. I think I will have to bag myself a deer with it sometime.
cheers

x2 what BCLD said.
All the ones i've saw in .357 would only work marginaly at slow speed and never at high speed. Mine would stovepipe or throw at least one round completly out in every mag full. Some of the .44 & .45's seemed to be a little more dependable. But none of them would be considered good enough for camp protection from bears or hoodlums in my book.

When I bought my Browning 92 44mag I shot Remington UMC 180 grain bullets and found that it would shoot four to six inches high at 50 yards with the back sight adjusted as far down as it can go.

Then I tried Winchester 240 grain bullets which will shoot on the bull's-eye at eighty yards with the rear sight at the third step from the top.

I was amazed that the point of impact would change so much with the different weight of bullet.
