Sunday afternoon while shooting Systema Colt I wondered why it was failing to eject - casings hanging up in the port - checked brass and  look at the walls

Hmmm something wrong here. Stopped shooting and took it home for cleaning and inspection - holy sh** a crack had opened up at the base of the boss

The boss must have been moving with each shot and actually opened up a flap in the solid steel barrel which the brass flowed into upon firing.

Horseshoes up my ass that day as it could have had a nasty outcome. Anyone ever seen this happen before? This old Systema has only target loads through it for the last 30 years and factory before that. It's off to Armco for a barrel, blue and tune up. Still those STI's look nice

How old is the gun? How many rounds trough it?

30 years of service is respectable.

Glad you caught it before it failed completely!

I just bought an STI from Gunnar. Great guns.

Another good use for duct tape! No really, 30 years of target loads? It has served you well. And you are one lucky bugger!

Systemas are known for that. I have two Systema barrels with that exact problem.

+1

I've got a Sistema barrel with the same issue.

4570 - On the upside you can get another drop-in barrel [Colt, Springfield Armoury, Auto Ordnance, Norinco, etc] and get back to it.
