I maybe wrong but they do not get to keep the guns.
They don't keep the guns, but they don't have to spend money buying guns for their reviews.

Also, as a member here(who writes for a magazine) stated recently if the firearm tested is not a good one they do not write about it. Sounds logical, I myself would like to read negative ones also to help decide about a purchase. If they did write bad ones would gun companies continue their friendly relationships with the mags?
And that's exactly what makes gun reviews meaningless. They just send the bad ones back to the manufacturer and repeat the process until they get a sample that works. And this is beside the fact that gun makers get to cherry pick the guns they send for review (and you can be sure that the samples sent to gun rags get more quality control than the guns that end up in the hands of the consumer).
