Just wondering if I will be able to hit anything with no chokes?? I got a great deal on a 12 ga but it is not threaded for them. Can you get a barrel threaded? What does it cost? Thanks.

shotgun in question probably has a full choke barrel, we need more info as to what make and model it is. some older trap models didn't have interchangable chokes. Does it have a vented rib? any markings? tell us more.

Well you have a full choke, but on the other hand you have a shotgun that you can buy a barrel for everyday of the week for, including a vented ribbed barrel with interchangable chokes, which would be cheaper then having your barrel bored out and threaded :D

I am super excited to try it out this Saturday. I have a 20 ga too that I absolutely love but I wanted to try with a 12 ga as well. I just got it today and I was sitting on here and I started worrying it would be no good. lol.

I am wondering if it will prove to be too long and heavy for me. I might look into a shorter barrel. I will probably alternate with my 20 ga until I am stronger.

Try and find some #8's 1oz 2 3/4 dram 12 ga. loads for it. They won't kick you so hard.

Ok, I just bought a bulk box at Crappy Tire. But I will look into the other ones next time. Apparently it's supposed to snow on Saturday. Stupid snow. I hope trap is still on!!!

If you can find 7/8 ounce target loads they are the ticket, nice and fast flat shooting trap loads with little felt recoil. Be prepared for all the guys on the range to insist that you get a 20 gauge because your a women hehehe, I hear it all the time, in fact they almost convinced my better half that that was the ticket, she handles the 12 just fine and can handle four rounds on a sunday with no ill effects. my final word of advice to you is to keep your head down and your cheek welded to the stock. If you start lifting your head to see the bird you will have a hard time breaking that habit and you will never hit anything. Don't get fustrated when you miss, trap is also a mental game. On your first trip out to the range take a few shots at the patterning board, this will give you a good idea of where your gun is shooting...high, low right left. Left foot foward lean into the shot and keep your right elbow up..parallel to the ground. Your shooting stance is just as important, after all that just go out and have fun and break em.

30" full choke is just about perfect for a pump or autoloader IMO. A full choke is perfect for trap. I second the #8's 1oz 2 3/4 dram recommendation. With the cheaper shells, you will get a slightly more open pattern through a full choke than with the expensive ones.

If you can hold out a little longer or start saving, I still think a gas operated autoloader will be better for you in the long run based on your size you gave in the other thread. Try one!

PS we shoot trap locally year round. Snow, schmo!

Do not let anyone convince you that you need a 20 gauge. If trap is going to be your game you need to know that all the best including the ladies and juniors use the 12. If you are just going to shoot trap for fun and practice for hunting, use whatever pleases you. Have fun and if you can try a few guns before you spend more.

I can't wait until Saturday! Now I have been trying to decide about those fiber optic type sights. Any opinions????

Forget about the fiber optic sights. You should be looking at the target and not the sights. Mount the gun, stack the beads, call for the target and watch the target.

Love to disagree with Win/64, but not on this one! He is right.

There is only one bead.

In that case, look down the center of the rib toward the bead. When you got that lined up. Look past the bead to where you will see your target. Call for your target. Wait to get clear focus on the target. Then SMOKE IT:D
