I'm usually the one answering all these questions but there is one thing about the AG42B that I just don't get and thats the cleaning rod.

The AG42B's cleaning rod has an elongated hole at one end that, when I first saw it, looks to be for holding a patch to swab the barrel. However, this end does not fit into the barrel past the muzzle brake as it's too large.

Is this hole simply for some other rod I don't know of to make a T-handle for cleaning similar to the round hole in SKS cleaning rods, ect? And if so, why is it an elongated slot and not a round hole?

Anyone know it's purpose?

I found this...

It's good to get the toolkit because it has a special tool for removing the threaded muzzle cap for cleaning or to remove the front sight.

Ironic who he suggests linking too. :D

So perhaps once the cap is off you can get the rod down the bore?

Do you have a full tool kit for one of these?

I have a full took kit, yes. And the rod can actually pass fully through the muzzle cap so I does not need removal. As I've said, it only stops after the muzzle brake, where the rifleing begins.

The rod is correct. I thought my rod may have been the wrong one too but of the three Ljungmans I've owned, all have had the same rod.

Ljungman cleaning rod

The cleaning rod in the rifle is for cleaning the CHAMBER, there was an additional piece (not part of the cleaning kit) the soldiers had for cleaning the BORE.

Two Piece Cleaning Rod

Hi Guys,

I have an M42B that has the two piece cleaning rod. I have only ever seen the one I have with that feature. The two pieces fit together and it is long enough to clean the entire bore.

I will try to get pictures up.

Cheers,

Bill

I too have seen the two piece cleaning rod and these are quite rare. I understand that these were in the original issue but were later changed to the one piece.

You can get Swedish Mauser cleaning rod extensions on ebay for around $10 Can.
But I'm sure there has to be some kicking around Canada for sale.

Looking for a magazine for my AG42

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a magazine for my AG42 or a really beat up AG42 that I could salvage parts from. Any idea where I could find what I'm looking for?

An MG-34 mag will fit with modifications, pin to 5 and your OK.
Probably cheaper than finding an AG42B lungman mag.

I think it is more the MG-13 magazine that can be adapted to the Ljungman.

And by the way, is there anybody that found a drawing or pic of the modifications to be made on that mag?
