I have inherited some military .22 trainers, amongst which are two Mauser Mdl 98 rifles. The receiver is a full size mauser but with a .22 barrel, the top of the recever is marked ' dot 'and has the Waffanampt mark with the numbers 63 underneath.
What do I have here and .....big question..where can I get bolts for these guns ?

A mismatched rifle is worth only about half or less than a matched rifle. That's what you have until you find the bolts. Good luck finding bolts? Maybe Ebay for .22 Bolts?

Another reason to never remove the bolt of a privately owned firearm.

(Sorry pal, but you are on your own there. Maybe you'll be able to have someone else's copied for you.)

If a large portion of the receiver ring is cut away, its an Israeli conversion.
Replacing a bolt in a '98 Mauser is certainly do-able, replacing a bolt in a .22 conversion could be really difficult.

One thing I've noticed about the Israeli conversions is that none seem to have matching bolts. I'd like someone to disprove me on this but I believe they were all removed for storage and then put back in at random when they were surplused.

I have a number of FN Israeli 98k .22 rifles and all the bolts match. I have some of the remington .22's with matching bolt numbers. The bolts were always in the guns...as they are all single shot. The Mas model 45 repeaters also had the bolts in the guns and they are 5rd repeaters. The only problem with the FN 98k .22's is that they were stored in racks and the wood soaked up oil and dirt.

You can remove the bolt of a single shot rifle.

Really? I noticed just the opposite. The FNs seem to be nice and the Remington barreled ones seem to be the dirtiest!
