just looking for somewhere to start, i have 870 supermag.
what shot size do you like 4,5,6?
what else is there to know?
new gun never fired.

thanks, Tom

Winchester black box super 'x' supreme copper plated seems to be my best pattern. They are cheap too. 1 3/4OZ always patterns better for me in a 3" over the 2OZ loads as well. This is likely a good start for you. Seeing lots of birds in Kingston area lately?

My supermag patterns best with 3" number 5's. You gun most likely came with a HD choke, so you could try some HD stuff if it did. No experience with them myself.

I patterned some of the Winchester extreme loads or whatever, they were #5 and about $45 a box (10). They patterned very well, even out to 50 yards.

#4's
Pellet count isn't as important as down range energy in my experience. All the close shots dont really matter on shot size. I have used all three and have decided to stick with #4's

Winchester supreme 3.5" #6 fired through a remington Extra Full Heavyshot choke.... I only took up turkey hunting last season. 2 Shots, 2 clean kills..... Not bad for only 4 days of hunting..... BTW, I also get very similar patterns with steel 3.5" through a modified choke at the same range. Good Luck!

I use the same. And have no complaints. I only wanted to try the 3 1/2's just because my shotgun could. I was told not to spend the extra cash, 3" is enough, and I agree. But, I just had to. And I still have shells left over from last year, so 3 1/2's it is again for this year.

I shoot 3" Winchester Supreme #6 through a Pattern Master Choke Tube. I like the #6 for the extra pellet count, but try a couple of different loads in your gun to find what it likes.

I found using my RemChoke "Ventilator" the 3.5 would blow out in the center leaving a very wide pattern. 3" doesn't in my application.

I've just bought a shorter barrel so that could all change. It is only 3" so I guess we'll see.

hey, thanks for all the responces
to answer one of the first question there is tonnes of turkeys around kingston they mock me eveyday on my way to work.
however i will be hunting them near smith falls.
now my selection for shot will be limited due to lack of options at crappytire and wallyworld
if nothing they have suits the need of my gun then i will have to travel to norris's in newboro.

thanks, Tom
