What would an Unaltered, Matching, All Original, Non Sanded Stock Mosin Bring these days $$$? (Just as it left the Russian Factory)

Just saw one at the Oshawa range yesterday. His was a westinghouse 1912 or something like that. All original except the finnish handguard. Good condition. He was a good shot with it too.

Best bet at locating one, would be one of the US made rifles that never went to Russia. P&S had some a while back.

Great link Cannuck.

Looks like mine is a number two that has been updated to Number 10 at some point.

It has a steel crossbolt and the newer rear sight and sling swivels added.

I have never heard or seen of a complete original unit in Canada. All the ones I have seen have be altered by the Finns or Austrians. The one on the right comes close but it has been wrecked by someone who wanted it to look like a old winchester. It has the flat sight, no crossbolt/ recoil lug or sling slots though. Finn 91/24 on the left for those who want to compare.

Finnish rebuild ..i have 4 of them .very nice rifles but not an original 1891 ..Finnish M91 some were rebuilt in the 1920's from guns captured in WW1 sold to Finland from Austria then a large number of captured guns from the Finn/Russian war were again rebuilt in the early 1940's ..I'am no expert this info is just from reading a few books ..love the rifles they are a blast

Got a Westinghouse and Remington. Picked them up at $125 or so each. They were on the site (P&S Militaria) for a while.

Next time I saw one, they were $250 :)

Yep, but that one's been restored as mentioned.

I've collected mosins for a good while now and have not seen one in person. I doubt many exist outside maybe Russia. Even in the US, they are unheard of. The vast majority were updated in around 1910 or so to the newer pattern with a handguard, crossbolt and konovalov sight.

Exactly! Even the rear sight looks correct. However, the finger rest is missing.
What factory and a year of manufacture is this one?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but not all have the finger rest as I recall. All the Chatellerault order had the rest, but many of the early pattern Russian ones did not ever have it fitted, even before 1910. I have a couple original 1894 dated Tula M91 stocks that have been updated to the 1910 pattern by addition of a cross-bolt. Neither is inlet for the finger rest.

Chatellerault

Now, you're talking of one of the rarest birds among the Mosins: the Chatellerault M-91 first model with secondary finger rest and no upper handguard.
Chatellerault were the first foreign arsenal to contract with Imperial Russia for M-91 Mosins.
If you stumbled upon a complete one, it's equivalent of finding a lost winning lottery ticket in a dark muddy alley on a windy moonless night...

Here's the M91, Tula made, Serial # 1 (sorry, couldn't find a better pic). I guess, the very first ones were fitted with the finger rest.
The rifle is in the Museum in Tula:

1894 tula . I have a Austria capture 1896 tula, wooden recoil lug & newer rear sight but otherwise original & matching(except for the missing bolt). If you are looking for pristine examples of early mosins you have to go to Germany & talk to Karl Heinz Wrobel or visit Russia. Most of the pics you see on the internet are of Karls collection.
