My Garand finally bit me.

Mine bit me the first hour I had it when I went rooting around in the action to see what it was that released the bolt exactly. They really have a wicked spring in them, eh? I almost got my thumb out in time, but just the tip of the meaty part got snapped-- bled pretty good though. lol!
Worst part was that I was holding the bolt back with my other hand thinking I was safe, but I misjudged how strong that spring was and it came out of my hand.
Oh well, now you've joined the club.

Coulda been worse...saw a buddies finger after pushing the mag follower down on an AG42 Swede......you only ever do that once!
Let me guess: your friend didn't bother putting the safety on and pushing just a bit on the action cover to catch the carrier (which was only retained by the hold-open catch).
When pushing down on the mag follower, he managed to trip the hold-open catch too, hmmm?
Very bad consequences...

I made the classic mistake. "Ill just wipe down that follower abit with a rag" and SMASH. The action got my index finger so bad. My nail turned a bit purple but it stayed on thankfully. Believe it or not i did it to my thumb about 3 weeks later. I was pushing a clip down and i guess there was too much grease on the op rod handle. OWWWWW..

I found this last year on the internet...

Not sure if it helps... :D

Had that happen to me with a Hakim (much bigger version of the ag42). The bolt releases by pushing the dust cover back against the reciever block.

Turns out if you let the butt drop onto your foot while holding the gun via hands in the action, that'll release it too.

Closed right on the first joint on my thumb and held tight. I actually flailed that gun around on my thumb and hit myself with it....

I don't feel like as much of a fool hearing about other people's misfortune now though :p
Now, guys, there's a man who knows what pain can be... A Hakim! legitimate dark son of the Ljungmann, only bigger, the most dreaded fingerbiter of them all!
Hope you still have all your fingers, H Wally!

Whoops, I just thought it would be a good way to hold the bolt open. :D

I have seen someone catch their hand in a Ljungmann action which makes a distinct sound followed by a silent gasp of others around followed by some colourful language and its victim doing a special dance.

Methinks a good time to make an offer to buy it from him. :D

OK, I can top that. Many years ago while visiting Ye Olde Hunter, in Alexandria Virginia, to buy a couple of guns, I got talking to the salesman about the Steyr Solothurn they had. (20mm) One IDIOT wanted to see just how strong the return spring was . He cranked back the bolt (rack and pinion), stuck his finger through the ejection port and onto the bolt face, then PULLED THE TRIGGER! Snip!

I'm always in awe at the lengths some idiots go to prove their ... er... intelligence.
If you make and patent a new idiot-proof device, one week later sure there pops out The New, Improved Idiot.

M1 follower

Crap, I hope it's not that. . . :(

Hmmm, according to the Kuhnhausen manual it is supposed to automatically release the bolt when the clip is loaded, but thinking about it, it only follows. . .

Yes, that is the way the M1 is supposed to work. When you load your clips, load them so the top round is always on the right. Your thumb keeps pressure on the top round while inserting the clip, then you pull your hand away quickly. If you have really tight clips or sticky brass, a slight bump on the handle with the heel of your hand will chamber a round.
