.257 Roberts 28 Degree RCBS

Are you referring to the 257 Roberts Ackley Improved? If so you'll have to special order the die set from a dealer that sells RCBS. don't think anyone will have it as a stock item. FS

It's not the Ackley. You probably thought of this already, but the AI sizer die can be used to neck size. At least that will get you shooting.

Correct RickF, it's the 28 degree RCBS shoulder not the 40 degree Ackley. The overall lengths are the same. Neck length and body diam. at point of shoulder are very similar but the Ackley has a longer body length to the point of shoulder. The Ackley die, readily available from RCBS, would work fine for neck sizing. I'm wondering what you would do after several firings to reduce body diam, or to bump the shoulder back to ensure reliable chambering. Generally you will only need to trim cases. I expected that RCBS would carry the die that bears their name. I suppose you could cast the chamber and have a custtom die made. Anyone else??

I have seen 257 Roberts 28 degree dies on eBay a few times lately, I am building a 40 degree so they came up in my searches too.

I would call Sinclair Intl in the US and talk to them. They have a huge assortment of dies, and I would specifically recommend the Redding standard FL die set. That's what I use for my 257 Bob AI and my 25-284 dies among others, and they produce straight ammo. Sinclair (google them) are great to deal with, have good prices and will ship to your door with a very minimal international handling fee of $6 or so.

Just order a die set from RCBS. They will know what it is! :D

Ted

I called RCBS and after a lengthy wait (apparently there has been a real rush on reloading supplies in the States) spoke with a lady that had been there for 22 years. She says she can remember hearing about the 28 degree, but has never seen it stocked or in their cataloge. She said I could send fired brass and they could make a set. Not alot of help, so I moved on.

Another very accomodating guy is Dave at CH-4D. He will ship to Canada as well. Regards, Eagleye.

Eagleye. I contacted Ch-4D and spoke with Matt there. He was terrific, very helpful. He has the 28 degree dies, and will make a custom set for $60 more.
I just have to send him some fireformed brass or a chamber casting. There is a wait though, about 18 weeks. It sound like everyone is stocking up on reloading supplies.
Thanks for the contact.
