Here is a Stery GB 9mm - which is a pistol from 1981 which was in competition with the Glock to become the military pistol for Austria. It was beat out by Glock, but is a very good and accurate hand gun. Has a fixed barrel and polygonal rifling.

The system used by Steyr was simpler and stronger than comparable mechanisms used in the competing Heckler & Koch P7 series of pistols, as it required no pistons or other moving parts. It also did not appreciably reduce the muzzle velocity and hence the energy, of the 9mm cartridge it fired; in fact, the GB's muzzle velocities were competitive with those of other modern 9mm pistols. The fixed barrel was attached solidly to the frame and used polygonal rifiing in the bore, both innovations promoting above-average accuracy.

Below are some photos of mine:

In its box with extra mag, manual, and cleaning rod.

These are 18 round double stack mags (pinned of course).

The following photos show it being disassembled.

Rotate the take down lever.

stery_gb_4.jpg

Rotate the front locking retainer to remove the spring.

stery_gb_5.jpg

Shows it out of the slide and ready to take out spring and take off slide.

stery_gb_6.jpg

Main spring on its way out.

stery_gb_7.jpg

Slide moved to rear so it can be lifted off of action.

stery_gb_8.jpg

Pistol disassembled. Note fixed barrel.

stery_gb_9.jpg

Fixed barrel. Note ports for exhaust gases for blowback. Hexagonal rifling and fixed barrel make this a very accurate pistol.

Man am I jealous! I always wanted one of those! I really appreciate the pictures of the dis-assembly.

You do have a neat pistol. You are joined by a few others of us who think the same thing. One CGNer has two. The gun is a gem. Congratulations.

Very nice, the only other commercial pistol to use the gas-delayed blowback principle (other is P7).

Are these still available here? What is the price range? I remember reading about this pistol back in the 80's, I thought they were very popular in the US.

I don't think so! If I'm not wrong, the Chinese M77 and NP20 are both gas delayed blowbacks. Both commercial copies of the Chinese official military handgun, which you can get from Marstar. Somebody more knowledgeable please correct me, if I'm wrong.

Interesting..

No - they are only available used. I haven't seen very many around.

This is the 2nd one I've owned - I sold the first and regretted it....you know those guns you sold but wish you never had...like (the 3 Finnwolfs I've sold, Model 88 in 284 win, Lahti L-35 pistol, pre-64 Model 70 Featherweight, etc.)!! :(

They are a very neat gun... glad I got myself a few of them. Deckard is right. the frames are two pices of stamped steel that are welded together. They are exceptionally accurate pistols and a joy to shoot.
