Making a loading block for my Ruger Old Army

I built myself a fairly simple stand that holds the pistol upright out of 1x6 and use the loading lever. If I had extra cylinders I might look into making a little press to load them out of the gun.

The wood stand that they sell was not a design that worked for me. If you build one make it taller with a U shape to rest the barrel in. That way you can use the half #### and rotate the cylinder.

You bet , keeps all that rigging tight on the gun, I would still use it to be certain I could without problems,. Then the press for range work.

If I had an antique or gun that I wanted to baby I would make a press. Might anyway someday but the only time I've had trouble loading was when I cast some balls out of lead that wasn't as pure as I thought. They were a bugger to seat.

I use the previous incarnation of this, and it works great. I'm running 5.5" ROAs, so they are a real pain to load with the stubby little rammer handles. DD is great to deal with. I'm also a big fan of the EPP-UG boolits in my guns. Shoot to the same POI as round balls, and you don't need to bother with wads or lubing, other than lubing the boolits in a lubrisizer.

also want to make my own wads , gonna have to research that ..
google "durofelt", send her an email ask what thickness the black powder guys use, then get a set of hollow punch's preferably metric, start whacking out your own. I think 12 mm is .44 cal.
or use a dremel tool to open up standard hole punch.
Two years back i ordered a small sheet of felt, and now have a life time supply for around $23. delevered from Arkansa.
after you punch out a supply of wads, microwave some bore butter in a small dish, then hand dip the wads with a pair of tweezers quickly at the kitchen table.
