I own several shot guns all 12 gauge 2 semi's and a pump. I recently tried skeet shooting and I like it,,,,,,I am currently using a semi. ( SX3 ) I notice most guys use Over/Unders. I am not looking to break the bank, thinking under a $1000 dollars for O/U.....as in model, used/new.....

So you want to Look like the other guys and want to spend under $1000 on a crappy O/U ??

I don't get it.

Use your semi. Learn the game. Unless you are buying a good used one, look for a nice Citori. Most likely in the $2500 range.

I want to try an over and under as a starter,,I have never owned one,,,,its not about looking like anyone else,,,,,,I buy what works for me ,,not what others have,,,not my question. I am not a pro,,,very much a beginner,,and its not a gun that makes shot its the shooter..having said that I assume by your question I am out of the ball park,,,,with the dollar value.

A used Browning, SKB or Winchester 101 etc in VG to Exc condition will be generally available for roughly around $1500.

Alternately, a Baikal IZH-27E or SPR310 (same animal) will cost somewhere under $1k if new. The overall finish quality is acceptable but a distant cry from the firearms mentioned above. However, it is built strong and will do it's job all the same.

New Baikal shotgun actions (read o/u) are quite hard to open though and gradually becomes easier once you've shot a few hundred shells through that :).

Check out the Beretta 686 on EE.....

...Wow! Rivet did you even read the original post? At which point did you feel he deserved the answer you gave him?
He's a newbie to the site and asked a pretty straightforward question. Some of these folks are the future of our sport, give'em a break.

Mad Mikey

Didn't you buy an outlaw? Have you tried it at Skeet yet?

Just me, but I think that you SX3 is a better gun for skeet than an under $1000.00 o/u. Just me, but if you want an o/u, a used citori is better than any new o/u that retails for less than $1000.00.

Nope I didn't end up buying an Outlaw. I changed my mind after reading your highly respected posts in those Outlaw threads. I sure dodged a bullet there, and I don't care to live my life as a double amputee when that thar "Chineee" shooty blows up in my hands.
Thanks to Win/64 as his definitive and informative posts keep us all safe from offshore K-rap, we're all the better for it. Truly "the" man amongst men.

Expecting the peanut gallery to chime in at any time...:D

All I can do is look at your Avatar (and wonder), are you "Dumb or Dumber"

Get some fresh material. If you recall you used the same "witty quip" in a previous Outlaw thread and it went something like this...

Win/64- "I can't help wondering which you are dumb or dumber"

Sun and Steel- " I'm the one who's a millionaire and nailing Jenny Mccarthy!"

Besides, lately I noticed you have learned to imbed lame Simpson pics. and gifs in your quality posts.
I'm Truly impressed with your computer savvy as many 64 year old men have a tough time even dialing a a cell phone!

P.S. apologies to original poster for straying off topic, Win/64 is like an itchy bag that needs to be scratched lol.

Mad Mikey.

CZ has a couple nice guns for around a $1000 you might look at. They feel pretty good to me. :)

CZ o/u are nice considering the price range and for what they were originally designed for i.e. field use.....I owned a 12ga Redhead and a Woodcock couple years ago. However, I have a feeling those may be unable to withstand heavy and/or regular long term range use - ocassional/light use for clay would be just fine, IMHO.

Nothing wrong with a semi IMO. If you reload it means you have to chase after your ejected shells.

I would ignore any advice to buy a cheap O/U. They might be OK field guns but they don't hold up to the volumes shot at clay targets. The Citori is a very popular intro O/U. Older ones (also marked Miruku & Charles Daley) with fixed chokes are well within your budget.

Thanks for the feed back,,,,,,,I have another gun that I bought on a whim a few months ago,,,,,,it was pretty and had to have it,,,,lol,,,,,like most of us,,its a 28 year old remington 1100 ...2 3/4 28 in mod barrel...the gun is unfired and I paid $400.00 bucks for it,,,,,I don't know if its worth keeping in the unfired condition,,or should I pound the crap out of it,,,,

I do not think there is much advantage of keeping your 1100 unfired. I do not like safe queens! Your 1100 is a shooter! Shoot it and enjoy! Keep your eye open for a skeet or imp. cyl barrel. 1100s make fine skeet guns and will outlast most under $1000.00 o/u guns.
