Bush Gun

When I think of "bush gun", I think of a Rem 7600 30/06 Carbine with a Leupold 1.5x5.

Pretty much perfect for the task with enough umph to take on longer shots if needed.

My "Bush Gun" is a Ruger MK II in 350 rem mag, barrel set at 19", stock trimmed so that with a Limbsaver on it, she sits at 13", topped with a Weaver 2-7 variable. Just assembled her this winter, so am itching to see what she will do. 200 gr Barnes ### at approx 2700 should make life rather interesting for anything downrange. For things that bite back, a 250 Speer hotcor around 2400 should ease the pain. Both are short enough to fit the Ruger's magwell quite nicely.

Now Barktwid....is it fact that the 30 30 wont deflect off grass and twigs like the 270? I have had it happen and gawd it sucks....but guys at gun store say it makes no difference they all do.....but I thought that was kind of bs...i mean i am not "aiming" for the twigs lol....it has happened ....its the only thing i could guess happened as there was grass when i shot at a wolf that was sneaking into the lick.....

I highly doubt it makes a difference. This is just the thinking of a few people that I grew up around. The last time I shot any thing other than a grouse in thick brush it was with a .243 and the deer droped in 20 yards after I hit it through the lungs. The .243 worked as well as anything.

My vote would be for a Remington 7600 carbine in either .30-06, .308 or even better yet, 35 whelen.

my bush guns are win. 38-55 , marlin 44 mag, marlin 45-70 and marlin 30-30 , had a 303 savage but it didn't like me.

Fast, easy to point, light to carry, ment for hunting not gun shows, bush guns

I've got a short barrelled Lee-Enfield that is the epitome of a Canadian bush rifle. Short, quick pointing, reasonably powerful and reasonably light. Now, if I was getting a rifle for kicking around in the bush in case I needed to wallop something in camp (dare I use the "B" word?) then I'd prefer a 18" barrelled 30-06.

to me were we live i always think of a shot gun with slugs or buck shot as bush guns .i do not think deflection is the reason for flat nose heavy bullets .i think thy stay together better then a fast bullit which will blow apart on impact with a small limb like a 17 or 22 250 the bullet will be in a million chuncks after hitting anything on its way to a target my 2 cents DUTCH

I forgot to mention earlier that my bush gun is a M1922 Brazilian Mauser in 7x57. It is a 98 action with a 19" barrel and weighs about 7.5lbs. It still has all the hand gaurds but I removed the the rear sight and installed a willians sight. Very nice to shoot. Haven't had it out of the basment yet but it will be with me on my next canoe trip.
