Hey I'm 19 and I've always had a fascination with MilSurp guns so I'm looking to get my PAL soon. I'm not sure where I can find a list of places where I can take the test so thats what I'm here for :D

Also, how much do these things cost??

Thanks!

Thank you! that Milshoot sounds like something I would love to see :D

How does the PAL test work? Do you go to their house or something? Do price lists vary from person to person?

Thanks!

Its a minimum/maximum cost settup so the price does not vary that much as far as I know. Its usually $110 for the PAL course and exam all in the same day, and another $110 course and exam if you want to upgrade to an RPAL.

There are courses and exams run two or three times a month in Ottawa. The above linked list gives you the names of the instructors that can do this.

To get you started, I can recommend you contact Graeme Nesbitt. He can be reached via the contact info on the page linked above, and does respond to email. He runs courses very often at the RA center and other locals in the south of the city, and is an excellent instructor (as I am sure most are on this list).

register early at the RA club. good luck. and when you get your milsrup come a join us accross the river at danford range.

You should get in touch with Lou the Pou on the forums here. He's big into the Enfields and has refurbished many of them really well. I'm sure he'll see this soon enough and chime in. He really helped me with my No.4 Mk.1 that I just finished.
Good to have another milsurp nut around.

My suggestion for a tester/instructor is Dave Bartlett at firearmstraining dot see eh? Not a CGN sponsor, but a dedicated volunteer to the development of our sport at EOHC.

The milshoots are a moving feast, between EOHC and Smiths Falls. We might have one at Danford Lake this summer, but I've lost the bubble on that conversation. Come and make friends with some of the guys on this board who have/build/collect and maybe sell military surplus rifles.

Totally O/T but we should have a milshoot Team EOHC vs. Team SFFG that would be cool!

Hummmmmm. I like that idea. Who organizes the SFFG Milshoot? I know CGN members Andy & SKSCanuck organize the EOHC Milshoot. I would be up for EOHC team VS SFFG team Milshoot.

Ricky, you really should put the next EOHC Milshoot on your calendar. It's going to be held on Sat May 30th. Don't worry if you don't have an appropriate firearm, just ask & someone will let usually let you use one if you pay for the ammo ;). If you feel up to it, You can challenge the exams. You can pick up the course books and read them. FYI, if you know how to handle a basic rifle, just get the Restricted course book, it pretty much repeats all the relevant facts found in the other Non-restricted book. When i challenged mine it was $25.00 per test, $15.00 per book (I bought both) and $80.00 for the license. So $160 for the whole thing.

both manuals are available online on this website:

and you can also watch the videos here for demonstration of what the text is referring to (practice for your practical exam):

All free, so then just challenge the tests and take the money you would have spent on the course and put it into your first gun.
