The M4 came today from Arms East.

First impression is not bad at all (mind you I have never had an AR before).

I do have an M14 and the quality is much better on the M4.

Anyways, here's what is good and bad:

- Receiver is anodized with very little tool marks. Nice.
- Upper is good, military parkerizing, etc.
- Seems tight.
- Passes all function checks
- Bolt and internals seem excellent

Bad....

It's almost like any parts that were not cosmetically decent at the factory were painted with cheap paint. Hoppes #9 took it right off; I believe that is why Lever's pics looked like s**t. They tried to clean the rifle.

It appears the Chinese painted parts that were not up to visual standards; thus they tried to fix them.

Now, each part is mechanically fine, my rifle was painted on the charging handle, carry handle, ejection cover, safety, and one mag.

Now, the mag is the weird part, one mag was fine, very nicely parked.

The other I was wiping down and black paint kept running off, and off, and off..... It's been painted with about 10 coats of paint.

The other is great (park, no paint).

The carry handle is another slightly sore point. I had black goo paint in the sights. Now gone, but it's less than perfect.

Anyway, functionally good, I am just not sure why they painted the parts with paint that gun solvent will eat. (Comrade, these look like s**t, where is your aerosol can?)

However, if they shoot decently it's a wonderful AR for under $900.

I was aware of the issues so I have some duracoat on the way from Fabsports. Likely I need to just do some minor pins and the carry handle.

As Walt from Arms East said, this is a "servicable rifle" and will be a fun project to play with the AR.

I agree.

Oh, love the manual BTW.

There are no Lib warnings. Page 1 says:

"CQ-A5.56 rifle is an automatic rifle or semi-automatic weapon for infantry to kill individuals or group active objects".

Funny stuff in Canada as I shall use this for paper.

Have to admit, the manual is hilarious and joyfully free of "Mommy says don't kill anyone accidently" - here it's more like "Slaughter the Fascists, Glorious Comrade".

lol, can anyone scan in the manual, i'd love to read that. I remember a couple entertaining parts in the m14 manual.

I can take some pics tomorrow.

The manual is very non-PC.

I'm used to Ruger manuals where the first 50 pages state in RED that you must clear the gun or you will face certain death by simply cleaning it.

Order was placed Feb 6.

Arms East shipped it 2 week later as there seemed to be delays at the source (Lever).

Walt sent me an email advising the delay; after one week it was ready then transferred in 2 days (and approved - BC).

It took Canada Post 8 business days to get it back to Vancouver.

I could have had it from Lever earlier, but I will take Arms East 1 year warrantee any day.

Yes, it did a cross county round trip, but it's here now.

Here's a few pics.

Lever Arms is also giving a one year warrantee on the rifle

They still suck in my books.....sold me a New MP45 with a huge dent in one of the mags and after MONTHS of dicking me around they finally told me there was nothing they could do and it was too bad for me. Great service eh!? Consider this story if you choose to buy from them.....ARMS EAST would be a far better choice.
