I've always wanted to make up a detachable mag. for the Enfield P14/17's with out causing any harm to the gun it's self. Dos any one know of a comercial rifle that uses single stacked 30/06 and .303 mag. Or any thing having the same rim diamater of the above two?

There are precious few 30-06 aftermarket mags. Factory mags of course from Rem, Savage, Tikka, etc

Also, HS.

Lots of Lee Enfield mags but fitting would be quite an experience.

I think making a proper latch system would be your biggest hurdle. have a look at the tactical bottom metals now in fashion with Rem's. That should give you some ideas on how to make it all work.

I think the easiest would be to look at modifying an HS bottom metal kit as the Rem 700 is not too far off the Enfield P17.

Try and find Coutters Shooter Shop in Sask he knew a gunsmith that built everything on the P-14 and P-17 actions. This old gunsmith made hundreds of magazines that were single stack for them in every caliber imaginable. Coutter still sells the odd one every now and again. If you are interested PM me and I can dig up a name and number for you if you can't find anything.

The old gunsmith was prob. Al Pedersen. He made a single stack mag system. I had a bunch of them in the rough, but lost them in a shop fire 20 yr. ago. They were very simple, but personally I didn't care for the latch system so never got around to using them. Basically 2 pc. of 18 gauge flat broke into a large U then welded. Could be made as long as you wanted. Mark
