ok sooo... im 20 years old and with the way things are im coming to the realization that the only way to maintain life liberty and security is to be armed... and ive always wanted to try hunting as im into survival training also guns are cool^.^ I mean from my perspective guns are a tool and when used responsibly im sure they can be alot of fun and no more dangerous than a hammer... with that being said i want to asorb as much info as i can and i have a bunch of questions hopefully some you can answer but i pretty much know nothing about guns other than what video games has taught me lol

so first what are some good resources like websites and such i should check out to get some basic knowledge?

also its my understanding that im going to want to get my pal as well as training for restricted and non restricted firearms which will allow me to possess rifles shotguns pistols and ammo

where are some good places in the toronto/gta/southern ontario where i can get such trainning?

also what are some decent reliable shotguns pistols and rifles for a beginner as im probably going to want all three and more imporantly which one first?:)

so ya thats all i can think of for now id like to thank anyone ahead of time who can answer any of my questions or correct me on anything i am missinformed about

thanks!

Also if you are going to use that answer to the question of why you want a firearm from the CFC rep you will never get any. Start off and get the firearms course and hunting course before you consider your choice of firearms.

slaves* but ya i figured that its the same thing with knives you cant own a knife for self defense because you cant be a slave and fight back they dont like that either... you need to get robbed and possibly killed while the cops take there time getting to your house because thats what it means to be free i guess... but enough about politics and such i deal with that every day teach me about guns!:)

Well that is another thing that is going to cause you problems here with some members when you make disparaging remarks like that about the Cops.

Download both restricted and non-restricted CFSC course manuals (they are on the site somewhere) and read them both back to front. Then find a place to teach you the courses. This should be enough preperation for the exam assuming you know the basics of firearms before going in. As for a first gun a .22lr would be best, low recoil and cheap which will let you shoot enough rounds on a small budget to get good. .22lr rounds cost about 4-10 cents a round where as full sized centerfire pistol orrifle rounds will cost you about 50 cents to 2 bucks a round for basic calibers.

cool thanks cam! any other views or insights from anyone are greatly appreciated... and for the offending cops thing i dont feel im doing anything of the sort they know better than anyone that they cant be everywhere at one time which is why people should be able to defend themselves but i wanna keep this on topic.... thanks for every1s help so far

Winchester-1897's point is that if you put self-defence as the reason on the application, it'll be denied. You have to join a club to own restricted firearms in Ontario too. Do the PAL and RPAL course at the same time. You don't need the Hunter' sSafety Course unless you plan on hunting.
Start here. http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/factsheets/owner_e.asp
Then go here to find a course. Think a few hundred dollars for the courses and tests. http://www.fseso.org/
