Anyone Hunt Using Iron Sights?

I have used iron sights alot over my lifetime. As I get older the eyes don't seem to focus as well.My 375 H+H has iron sights with a 1.5x5 V111 with quick detach rings. This is the rifle I take on any remote hunts.(Alaska Grizzly and Brown Bear,Yukon moose)or any where remote, as a scope can always fail.I also have a couple of lever actions (45/70,30-30wcf) that are open sights.I have peeps on both and a Hi-Vis front on them that are great.

Have used both. Last few years have been an open sight 94 in 32 Winchester Special. I have never used a really good scope, though, and I have the feeling that it would be neat to try one.:p:p

I will use irons on some of my rifles, but I much prefer a scope for deer hunting. I hunt in the hardwoods from a stand and can shoot far more accurately with a scope. It's all about seeing your game better and being able to pinpoint the shot... especially at dusk and dawn. Irons fail miserably for me in this respect unless the game animal is real close.

I used the open irons as well as my buddies use them when we hunt deer "oldtime" with 1906 Winchester rifles in 30-30 and 38-55 . I have used the side mount scope also in dim light times as the eyes are not as young as they usta was.

When its "bucks only" hunt I like a scope to see the head gear. Also bears - often taken at near dusk - require a large exit pupil quality scope in my world anyway.

But last fall I practised with my iron sighted muzzleloader at the range. I was hitting pretty well so I took it out deer hunting in a special season here for muzzleloaders. I could shoot both antered and antlerless. Got a doe - dumped it with a broadside shot at about 40 to 50yds. First time I used irons for years - kinda fun. I'll be using them more I think.

YUP!
I have more, but you get the idea!:D

Dropped a scoped rifle on a rock, on the way home to change rifles I saw a calf moose, missed the shot by a mile. Have not hunted with a scoped rifle since.

hunt with open sights in the morning and scope in the afternoon into the evening.. missed out on a nice buck one evening that I could see plain as day with my bino's but could only see shadows with the open sights.
