Anybody know if the cleaning rod from a Gew98 would fit a Peruvian Mauser? I just picked up a Peruvian 1909 and it's missing the cleaning rod. From appearance, both these rifles look very similar, actually almost identicle. Numrich has reproduction cleaning rods for the Gew98, Unless somebody knows where I can find a Peruvian:rolleyes:

Probably the same. Find a K98 rod first and see if it fits in the barrel and the slot in the stock. They are similar to the Gew98 rod except for length.

Thanks for the reply BUSHMAN, I'll check out the length on the K98. The Gewehr however seems like almost the perfect length. I'm assuming the threads will be the same for the 09, G98, and K98?

No no, I meant the K98 rod would be almost the same, but likely SHORTER. The threads would be the same, though. It seems to me that all the Mauser cleaning rods are the same size on the rod itself, but the tips differ depending on calibre. My Brazillian 1908 rod, for example, is very similar to the K98 rod.

I got ya now BUSHMAN, you were refering to fit of the tip in the bore only;) Now if only I had a K98 rod to try:redface: This is only my second Mauser, the first being a Husky Swede, so I have nothing to try out before I buy. Basically I'm just looking for a rod of the correct length and thread pitch for the coolness factor. It just doesn't seem like a Mauser without the cleaning rod. I would never acually use the rod for cleaning, just looks. Does anyone know the correct length of the cleaning rod on a Peruvian 1909?
