Im sure my buddy was sober at the time of the sighting. Last fall while hunting mule deer by Savona B.C., an interior town in southcentral B.C. My buddy(whose name shall remain anonymous) could have sworn that he saw mixed in with a bunch of cattle, what looked like a hybrid between a cow and a moose it had some white patches like a cow, but the face of a moose with small palmated antlers and shorter than average legs and no beard. This man is not the type to make up stories and a serious hunter...has anyone else ever heard or seen such a critter? stu:50cal:

Impossible. Moose have 70 chromosomes and cattle have 60. Provided the sperm of one could fertilize the egg of the other, the embryo could not develop and would spontaneously abort. Don't know what your buddy saw but deer species cannot interbreed and produce offspring with cattle species.

I would guess that he saw a piebald moose, they are normally less than healthy as a result of their genetc inferiority. It was probably holeing up with cows as it had no where else to go. There was one out here in ontario that did the same thing a few years back.

It's not uncommon here in the west to see moose with white looking bald patches... tick infestation cause the moose to rub their hair off in an effort to rid themselves of ticks

There was a pretty famous hunter/trapper from NB about a hundred years ago who supposedly specialized in breeding moose/cow hybrids. I read a book on him once that included (I think) pictures of these monstrosities (alive and kicking, not stuffed).

I misremember the name, and if there was certified photographic evidence.

It may be scientifically impossible and the author could have been misled.

I read a book once that stated moose could dive up to 25 feet down to get the good food on the bottom of lakes......I came to the conclution I needed a spear gun and air tank and was heading to the ocean as everyone knows sal####er moose are MUCH larger than freshwater moose :D

There used to be one that would hang around the swamp area where I have my still, it loved the used corn mash we would chuck after brewin' up a batch of shine, it had pink fur with light orange patches and antlers like an elk that would glow in the dark, fu#@@in' scariest think I ever saw at midnight after drinkin' a pint of my home brew, once fired about 50 rounds at it from my ruger tropical .458 and never even found any blood. Lookin' for a couple of claymoore mines for the time out.

Not sure if this is what you saw, but here's a cow and calf from last fall with the white patches.
