I think I figured out my MP9 issue

So today I went to the range with the mission of make my MP9 shoot at least half as accurately as my $99 Norc M213....

I put 40 rounds of 147grain through it to warm up, at 7 Meters, with 8 inch groupings (ya, pretty terrible, but if you've seen me post before, then you know i blame the MP9)

put in a new 11x17" target, rolled it ou to 10M and did another 40 rounds, groupings were better, probably 6 inch, although scattered almost randomly around the point of aim (just like the first 40)

at this point Im starting to wonder what the deal is with this gun again, so I put up a new target, and fire off 2 mags quickly to heat up the barrel a lot more than my slow carefully aimed shots...... with the barrel at a searing flesh level, I fire off the other two mags I have loaded up, and I actually managed to get a 4 inch grouping with all 20 rounds at 10 Meters.

I let the gun cool off while I reloaded the mags and put up a new target, and with the barrel touchable again, I was back to 6-7" grouping at 10 Meters.

I now believe this gun is only accurate when its got a flesh burning barrel, anyone else that doesnt like their MP9s accuracy willing to try similar and see if it works for them?
 
if you think its the barrel , why not slug it as see what it measures. could be out of spec. also the barrel could tighten up in the slide/frame when warm, reducing clearances.

do you know anyone with a m&p you could swap parts back and forth to find the offender?

unfortunately I dont know anyone with a M&P I can switch some parts with, everyone I know with RPALs only have one or less handgun each (one with a glock, another with a vaquero, and a third with a Sig, and one guy that is prolly lurking here right now with a HK)

perhaps it shall make an EE appearance...... everyone thats read this, that goes in the EE, forget that I made this thread when I sneak it in the EE :)

Hmmm, my M&P shows accuracy on par with anything else I've shot at 10 meters. Can't say I've done too much 25 yard shooting with it. At ten yards I can always put ten rounds in a 4 inch circle at about 1.5 rounds a second.
 
I shot my girl friends M&P9 2 inches the first time we fired it out of the box. I'm not that great a shot either. 10 yards (what I shot it at) is 9.1 meters or something. That was with american eagle 115 gr though.

What you are describing sounds impossible. First of all, guns become less accurate as the barrel heats up, not the other way around; as the metal heats up, it expands and loosens up the tolerances. Second, when shooting a pistol at 10 yards, you will never see such a dramatic change in accuracy (going from 8" to 4") due to a hot barrel (if you were shooting a centerfire rifle at 100+ yards, it would be a different story).

Generally speaking, when a new shooter has accuracy issue with a particular gun, 99% of the time the gun is not the problem. You need to shoot this gun off a rest or have an experienced give it a go before writing it off as inaccurate.

I have shot it off a rest in the past with the same innacuracy issues, and while I may have been willing to accept the "inexperience" thing even a year ago, I still find it hard to believe. Every other pistol I own with various back strap configurations and various sights, I am very accurate with (a 1911, a norc m213 and a K100mk6). The results in my original post and under what conditions are as they are.
 
How do you find the trigger. Heavy? Long trigger reset? What? I am sure John in BC is willing to part with $100 for a gun that is inaccurate. Heck the way he shoots who would know????:D:D:D

While Im not sure what the weight would be, I can only compare it to what I have.... its slightly lighter than my GrandPower in DA, but heavier than the Grand Power in SA, the 1911, and Norc M213. Its trigger reset is also much longer than the others, although the springy hinged trigger may make it feel longer than it actually is
