I'm tired of seeing the same threads come up on a daily basis about what would be the best scope for a Lapua or L.Imp. In the interest of my sanity, and that of others, here is a poll.

Read the responses carefully. You can answer as an owner or a speculator. If you have "other" scopes please respond. Let's not turn this thread into a "farce". Post what you run, why you run it or what you would run and why. Feel free to comment on power level. I didn't have enough room to add all the options and I know someone will say "But you didn't mention Sightron or Swaro or IOR or Zeiss or Huskemaw or King or Weaver or Simmons or..." No, I didn't. I picked the majors and threw in the 6500 as there's been a lot of talk about it and I wanted to see if anyone was running them.

There's a lot of interest in the far-reaching rifles. Let's use this to give new LR shooters some solid information with no partisan posts (I know there are dealers on here - post why you think yours is best, not why someone elses is junk). This should be fun, not personal.

Don't you start with me Mike!!! :p

You can be a "Have". The Edge/RUM are close enough. But don't even start with the 338-378...I've had too much coffee today for that!
 
Custom US Optics, SN 3 with the Horus Vision recticle. 3.2 x 17 power. Illuminated reticle option. Anti glare, left side parallax knob, 2" sunshade.

And the best part, was how much I didn't pay for it!!!!:D

I like the Horus Vision as I have unlimited elevation and never have to touch the turret.

Friends are cool, cool friends are awesome!!!!!!!!!!

I personally dislike Nightforce scopes. Eye relief is my biggest complaint. They just don't do it for me.

I like the USO for the reason I have someone who helped me get it (one wish off the list) and the fact you can throw it out the window on the freeway, bang nails with it or generally abuse it and it will still do it's job. Down side is ALWAYS having to explain what, how and why at the range.

What if I have all the parts it's just not a gun yet am I a have or don't have :D
 
I have NF 8x32s on my 338LAIs, reasons, most magnification and best clarity for the $$. Very repeatable, generous eye relief and I like their reticle. I had a USO SN9 and did not like lt partly for the FFP thing and partly because I found the exposed turrets collected alot of crap.

When I get the $$ and 1 is available will be getting 1 of the new Premier Heritage scopes. Unfortunately they have less magnification and are FFP, but the clarity is unbelieveable, but then so is the price.
 
I have 6-24X50 IOR on my Bat-actioned .338LM. Don't know what to do with them? NXS5.5-22X56 ZS will be on in 1 week.

Forgot to mention we have used IOR's being dumped, I mean sold.

Wow Wendell, this is from '09! Anyway my 338 Lapua has a 5.5-22x56 NXS, NP-R1 reticle. Knowing what I know today I would have bought a PMII instead. Comparing a PMII to my NXS the S&B has better glass. From what I can tell there is nothing special about the optics on my NXS and it is comparable to scopes that cost 1/2 as much like the Sightron or 6500 Bushnel. I'm thinking of moving the NXS off my 338LM to my 308, which sports a 6500 tactical right now, and replacing the NF on my 338 with a PMII. However, that's not going to happen until later on this year or early next year....
 
Wow This is really digging up an ancient thread.

I have run an 8x32 NXS for several years on my 338 LAI but in 2011 thought I would give the S&B PM11 12x50 second focal plane a go. I despise FFP optics but with this new offering figured "give it a try"
Good news is I like it, the additional magnification when conditions allow is nice to have use of, plenty of elevation built into the scope, about 25 MOA more than my 8x32 NF.
The P4F reticle is fine enough to be useful, the 1/8th MOA adjustments I really like, took a while to get used to how to set up the dual turn option, but once mastered works well.
My only complaints are that the instruction manual is totally useless and lucky me I got a scope with a defect. I got a scope with a small fleck of something loose inside the scope tube so every other shot it appears in view. Now I know without a doubt that the warranty will cover this and that with everything that is made there is a percentage of product that will have a minor issue, but why ALWAYS me??
Anyway it is an impressive scope and will buy another 1 for my 300 Awesome
 
I was using a Falcon Menace 4.5-25x50. Recently it suffered a problem where the parralex turret come off. I have it in for service. This does not detract from my preference for these scopes in my long range guns. I have 4 FM scopes. For the money they are a good value.
 
I said other.

Either Falcon or Vortex depending on the budget. (SWFA looks great too but there are none in Canada)

In any case, I will one day be a proud owner of either an S&B or a Premier, but $3200 is a hell of a price tag.
