Hi guys. I am not even sure if the 415 is available in country yet. However, if it were to be, and it had a barrel beyond 16", would it be restricted? It's firing system is rather unique, and though resembles an M4, is internally far from it. Whatcha think? Thanks all...... I need to know if I need to buy another piggy bank.

It's availiable as the MR223.

The biggest thing is the price tag ($4100 before taxes, probably higher now since the economic bubble burst).

The second thing is the RCMP classed it as an AR15 varient, so it's restricted class.

Its an AR15, of course it's restricted.

Don't be so quick to say 'of course' - there are a number of systems that have the appearance of an AR15, yet aren't restricted - Colt has a new .22, Robinson XCR, and the like. The gas system / bolt & ejector are different than a typical AR system. Such a difference may be enough to warrant it being classed differently.

So, thanks for your $0.02, but don't pull the trigger so fast next time partner.

Goes by the lower. It's restricted.

A while back in another thread CanAm noted:

It is actually quite interesting. In the FRT notes section it states that the 416 is "similar" to the M16 (uppers interchange), and that the MR223 is the civilian version. However, in the law reference used to assign class, it states that the reason it is restricted is because of barrel length only. Based on that, one could install a 471mm+ barrel and it should be classed as NR.

I wonder if anybody has tried this.

Assuming we are talking about the MR223 (not sure what a 415 is), the lower is not compatible with the AR series. SO why would it be the deciding factor??

The MR 223 should be non-restricted, if it had a longer barrel. There is absolutely no reason to lump it in with the AR, aside from having a strong visual similarity and obvious design influences.

So you're saying a MR223 upper will not work on an AR lower and vice versa? This would be news to me.

I believe I had one in my hand at epp's the other day. Just about had a stroke when he said the price was 4K, I wasn't long handing it back to him. The only observation I had was that it was alot heavier then my M4.

Not many of those around though. I think you have one of the few kicking around, right? Any noticible difference when you shoot it?

Naw, maybe slightly more recoil due to all the heavier parts moving around in there but nothing major. You couldn't noticeably tell the difference....at least in my opinion. The overall weight is a bit heavier then the average AR, but a little upper body PT will sort that out. Even the 10.4" carbine is a brick!
