Adjusting Trigger Pull

I have a Browning A Bolt and a custom Sako action rifle, both in 300 win mag.

Can trigger pull be adjusted with most rifles and if so, any guidelines and how to advice?

If not, what do you suggest for a smooth pull trigger for these guys?

I find that the trigger pull is a tad high but more specifically, I'd prefer a trigger with a bit more travel rather than resistance and then bang!

A smooth trigger is one where you feel no movement and it breaks clean suddenly when the weight is reached. What you describe as "travel" is really "creep" and not desirable. Two stage triggers which have quite a bit of movement still stop and then break suddenly if they are set correctly.

Your two rifles do not have two stage triggers and are best adjusted by a gunsmith. The weight can be from 2.5 pounds to 3.5 pounds for the majority of hunters.
 
if you don't know how to do trigger ajustments with confidence then take it to a gun smith or get someone who knows what they're doing to teach you.. most of us had to learn from someone...
 
Better yet, see if they make aftermarket triggers. My 700 has a jewel trigger on it. I installed it myself, I can adjust it myself, and you have never seen a finer trigger made. I thought the original was nice until I tried a friends benchrest rifle trigger. Then I though that it was as good as it gets. Then I tried a few others and found that it gets even better than I imagined.

Then I got a Jewell and the world stopped. This is THE trigger.
 
The A-Bolt's trigger is adjustable. So is your Sako. How you do it will be in the owner's manual. Both of which you can get on-line at the respective company site.
Buy a trigger pull guage first..
