I held a CZ International...

My 21 year old daughter just did a hunter's safety program and is going to challenge the PAL test. I would like to buy her a 22. What are some of your thoughts on the CZ - ZKM 453 American? Looks good. Will it shoot?

I think she'd be a lucky daughter if she got a CZ 453 American as a gift. I have a 452 American in 22LR and its a terrific shooting gun. It will consistently shoot under 0.5" at 50 yards with American Eagle hollow points. Only thing I've done to the gun was cut a coil or two off the trigger spring and polish the bolt so it slid with less effort. The 453 has a set trigger, so that you click it forward and then it is set to a lighter trigger weight. The stocks always look like nicer wood at the CZ website on the 453's, not sure if they are in fact a higher grade. Someone who's a CZ expert might chime in if there are any other significant differences between 452 and 453. Perhaps the bedding screws? I know the varmint has a different bedding screw system.

the majority of CZ rimfire's run about $600...that's what the International was selling for. I'd actually seriously consider buying it...if it wasn't for the fact that my 30.06 only cost me $445. why would I spend more on a rifle I'd only plink with?!?

Because you'd shoot more with it? :D

Exactly, my .22 lr's would be the last to go. Having a good 22 in the safe may be more important than any other single rifle. We have a lot of clients that agree and that's why they buy CZ's, Anschutz, and Cooper 22's from us. Easiest rifle to sell is a 22 lr. :)

Not to mention the cheapest rifle to feed as well.

Ah the Full Stock as most folks refer to them as. I have one and it is a fantastic shooter. Some folks think that Full stocks are not that accurate, a myth broken by CZ. FS

Currently my two favourite calibers are .22LR and .308. I really enjoy shooting .22 whether it's fast action plinking or bench style informal target shooting. It's great fun, and excellent practice. Plus you can still shoot indoors when it's -40.

Luv my CZ452 and I got a leftie. Reliable in Vancouver didnt have to order one in for me-they had one coming in for stock! Geez imagine that. Everyone that works there has a CZ. I liked it so much I bought a CZ527 in 223 a year later. A bit more than I wanted to spend but nobody else could come up with what I wanted in less than 6 months. That MiniMauser sure is sweet to shoot and both rifles are the same weight. That was a surprise. The quality is there. Delightful rifles both and keepers for sure.
