Recoil pad screws too tight

I can barly turn the scews on a walnut stock recoil pad. Is there anything I can put on them to make it easier to tighten them up?

drill out the hole ever so slightly, just a hair. Not sure if lube will help but it definitely won't hurt the wood.

What would you recommend as a lube that won't hurt the wood and won't sieze up with time?

Soap and wax. Daft isn't it? Most firearm related stuff is fairly simple. Mind you, like bill c68 says, the hole may be a wee bit small. I'd rather than than too big though. Oh and a longer screw driver will give you more leverage.

And if the hole is too big, use a short section of toothpick, enough to allow the screw to bite and lock.

Wax and soap work--but some soap absorbs moisture from the air/wood and can cause the screws to rust.

Good lubricant but! It can make the screw corrode or rust, making later removal much more difficult. Wax is much better. I got a little tube of something called alkempucky, from mcfeelys.com and find it works great. I have power driven many large construction type wood screws without predrilling using this.
