Would the .45 ACP brass that uses a SP primer use standard SP or magnum SP primers? Will the usual powders work without issue? I understand I'll have to start loads at minimum and work up. I seem to be finding quite a few of them. Thanks for your help with this.

Should be no problem. Start at min as you mentioned and work your load up to a safe tolerance.

Good luck and reload safely :)

Magnum primers are about the powder used, not the cartridge. Mind you, Winchester seems to think their NT cases aren't reloadable. Despite the numbers that get reloaded. The danger, more of a concern, is mixing large pistol primed brass with the NT brass.

Really bad idea.

Put aside and assidiously remove any and all 45acp cases with small pistol primers. The big boys at the major ammo makers made a BIG mistake making factory 45acp cases with SPP. There is no justification for them.
The only exception would be if all your 45acp cases are SPP. If so, then beware of those with LPP. Mixing the two is death.

I had a few hundred I picked up, but after loading a hundred then switching back to large pistol I found it was too much of a pain. So I dumped them on some poor guy.

But I won't tell acrashb if you won't. ;)

What reloader are you running?

i'm using the small pistol primers in a lee 1000 in 45acp- 6 grains of 231, and a 200 grain swc- no problems- the whole idea was to be able to make a non- lead sytpnenate primer , an encapuslated bullet, and a powder that would produce no toxins when fired-
ie a "green" round, esp in enclosed ranges where the air is recirculated- then they turned around and made the components factory ammo only, so we have to pay full price for that so-called "green " round

45 a.c.p. with small primers

The reason that the 45a.c.p. ammo is loaded with small primers is they use lead free primers and there is no manufacture that makes a lead free large pistol primer.
The 45 gap also uses the small pistol primer.
You just have to use the reg. primers and regular load and not a mag. primer.
Federal make a few also.
At present C.C.I. IS THE ONLY ONE IN MASS PRODUCTION OF LEAD FREE PRIMERS.
No different in brass just different primer pocket size.
They will all be marked ((nt ))for non toxic.
I have loaded thousands of rounds with no difference.

Take care and happy shooting

I load the trash can with 45 a.c.p. shells that use small primers.

don't do THAT- find someone that uses them and GIVE them to him- or if you use tse, just leave them on the floor- there are quite a few of us that have the small primer conversion, and would appreciate the FREE BRASS

45acp with small primers is still worth more $$$ than ANY 40s&w brass, and people sell that. Put it on the EE, and see. I haven't seen any 45 brass last more than a couple days for quite some time. It's a waste to just toss it, especially when it's worth $$.
