I'm sending an email to Kahr Firearms to see if it is a possibility for them at some point in the future to make an extended barrel for their T-9 and TP-9 guns. They are both listed as a 4" barrel and both already come with 8 round magazines, so really all we would need is Kahr to collectively pull their heads out of their asses and make a barrel that is a whole .2" longer then the ones the are already manufacturing.

I will update the thread later to let you know what Kahr says.

These are the guns I'm talking about. As if anyone here wouldn't like to own one of these. Well, maybe not so much the polymer one, but the stainless gets a big oh hell ya.

I dont know anything really about Kahr pistols, that said, I was told they are basically Glock rip offs? Is this correct? I'm sorry if i'm wrong, excuse my ignorance.

I like the TP-9 Kahr, but what does it offer me that a Glock 19 doesn't? Stainless steel?

Nothing, really. They both shoot 9mm and they're both polymer framed. The Kahr is stainless, which I'm sure to some would could be considered an advantage.

The Kahr's are generally speaking more expensive.

Really, what it boils down to is that it would be another firearm for use within the Canadian firearm community, which is never a bad thing.

I have a Kahr 9 in polymer, black slide and short barrel. It's a Glock-a-like pistol. It's very small. Not much fun to shoot. Also made for defensive short range.

My 2 cents.

I don't think you can really call the Kahr Arms pistols direct rip-offs of the Glock series, as they are entirely original designs. However, there are a number of similarities between the two pistols. Unfortunately, any compact, square-slided, striker-fired handgun seems to be classed as a modification or derivative of the Glock line, even when they are entirely unique guns.

Having followed the Kahr K9 development from the mid-1990s and onward, it is notable that Kahr does hold three distinct patents for their design which differentiate their guns from Glocks. Still, they are about the same size, roughly the same feel, and were marketed to the same police forces in direct competition with Glock.

The NYPD issued Kahr K9s as an optional backup pistol throughout the latter half of the 1990s and on into the 2000s.

Very nice pistols to hold and to fire in the stainless steel models. Well balanced, and quite manageable. Though I have not had a chance to handle the polymer frame guns, I have heard several reports that they are about the same with regards to handling and controlability as the sub-compact Glocks.

Personally, I had always wanted a K9 series stainless in 9mm, but the T9s, being closer to Canada-legal barrel lengths, would be a welcome addition to my gun safe!
