Hey, has anyone heard anything about the Adams Arms' kit for the AR15 that replaces the stock gas-impingement system with a piston drive-rod cycling system (like the AK)?
Do you think we'd be able to import that to Canada?
I'd be interested in playing with one of these kits. Check out Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement May 2009 issue. They have a SBR 7 Inch featured. Picked this magazine at Dave's Surplus a few days ago. Looks interesting.
Hey dangertree, I've read about compatibility concerns regarding this retro-fit (bolt carrier taking a beating from the piston for example), but I'd definitely be interested in your views on this kit after you've put them through their paces.
The Adam Arms unit has 2 advantages. First off it uses its own gas block, that is in line with the striker plate on the bolt carrier (the op rod is NOT off centre like the ARES one)
It is also designed to be low enough profile to fit under quite a few different quad rails. They have a list of them on their website IIRC that tells you which ones will fit, which ones wont, and which ones can if slightly modified.
The biggest disadvatage is that its a clamp on block, it doesn't have cross pins or set screws or anything. (at least thats what it was like when it first was announced at AR15.com)
