I joined this site about a year and a half ago as I was directed by someone in the know. Hung around while I thought about it and thought about it. Read a lot on here just for information. Yesterday I finally sent in the forms for my PAL/RPAL. I'm primarily interested in shooting sports for the hunting (even though I've never been) aspect. I only applied for my RPAL as the instructor I took the course from said it was important to apply for as a way of guaranteeing our rights.

I grew up in the city living in Surrey pretty near all my life and became really became interested in the outdoors about 16 years of age when I took up rock climbing. This sport took my on all kinds of amazing adventures doing a lot of minimillist camping which I still love to do but since the kids havent been able to get out at all. This summer looks promising for it though.

I'm interested in hunting because I'm a meat eater. This may sound silly but I feel that's a privledge and not neccesarily a right. I think it's important to actually hunt and field dress as a way of earning that privledge and of showing respect to the animal's that died.

Anyways a little over a year ago I moved to Cochrane Alberta. I see wildlife almost every single day and figure I'm finally in a position to get my firearms.
I'm hoping once my PAL is approved to maybe meet up with some of the old time shooters for some much needed experience. Also if their is anyone who does a lot of hiking/camping with just what fits on their back I'd love to pick your brain as I'm not that experienced with dealing with exposure and such at this altitude. Most of my trips were based up or down the coast.

Anywho it's good to finally be actually posting here. Hope it goes well.

Update WOOHOO

So today I called the CFC followed by a call to the Alberta's CFO office. The CFO's office pulled up my file and approved it on the spot. I checked the website about 30 seconds after talking to them on the phone and TADAA!! Application Received on: 2009/03/30

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

So in a very short while I will have my paper work back. I will then be leaving the "them" group and joining the "us" group. Look to see a bunch of noob questions in a buch of different area's very shortly.

Welcome from another Cochrane member. My husband (Can Can) and I live out here as well!
It's nice to know their are some other people close by. Perhaps we could meet up when I have the paperwork and some spending money for a nice trip to Bass Pro. I took my kids there and had an awesome time. It was like a field trip.
