What should I do with my 1911?

I ordered a Norinco 1911 police model from CanadaAmmo a couple of months ago and just got it last week. I opened the packaging and cleaned factory oil off and noticed that the magazine release was a bit sticky. When I push the button I have to physically pull the mag out (thought it should release a lot smoother). When I put in the other magazine and tried to take it out gets jammed up some how and won't relese at all. I have to take the gun half apart to get that magazine to release. It seems as though the problem is with only one of the two magazines it came with.

I'm not around a phone during regular hours and have sent an unanswered email already so I'm posting this here.

I seem to remember some talk about sticky magazines on these pistols somewhere on CGN but haven't been able to find the exact thread. Hopefully it isn't a big deal since I don't really want to wait who knows how long to do an exchange on the gun.

did you take it apart and totally clean it???? or just wipe the gunk off the outside?? there could be metal fileings mixed with the oil jamming things up . get a book on takeing it totally apart and clean the crap out of it not just wipe it off . check the mags to see if they are smooth on the outside . if you are troubled about takeing it apart find someone at your target club and ask them to do it for you or show you how . IPSC night would be a good time .
 
I had problems with norc mags, but all the problems went away after replacing them with north american made mags. Also is your mag loaded when you hit the slide release,? If no round it will be a bit harder, alos you may need to how shall I say it, a work up time before it works right. people with high ends 1911's have the same problems.
 
Give 'er a good blast of brake cleaner, crud cutter, or some other spray cleaner to get all the bits of gunk out of it.

Use good mags.
 
I haven't had any problem with my Norc 1911. It actually seems like it is spring ejected and just shoots right out. One thing though, are Norc mags any good? I don't have anything to compare them to, but they seem kind of flimsy to me.
 
Color the whole mag with white erase marker (green works good).. and put it in the gun.. where the marker rubs off is where it is binding... Ive seen this problem a lot with Norinco mags. As TGC suggested, change to other mags and it seems to work a whole lot better...

Thanks for the replys,

I did take the gun down (basic field strip) and blasted all the parts really well with G96. No luck getting the mag in question to release. It ejects about a half inch and gets stuck somehow.

Kinda sucks to buy a brand new pistol and need to buy aftermarket components right away.

Hopefully someone from CanadaAmmo will get back to me soon and help resolve the problem.

Any Poco Gunclub people out there? Maybe I could meet up with someone one day and try an aftermarket mag in my new pistol to see if it will make a difference.

First off they're not any good even though they feed rounds fine into the gun. I don't recall any problems getting mine out when empty.

The ones that came with mine can't be disassembled and tend to slice your thumb open if you push too hard while loading them. Also, one mag only wants to hold 6 rounds instead of 7. I bought a Chip McCormick 8rnd magazine that is miles better than the ones that came with the Norc and use it exclusively. They were out of 10 rounders the day I visited the store but I'm planning on buying one the next time I go.

That said I love the firearm, it shoots well and the only problem I've had in some 350 rounds is that it crushed a couple of brass casings so I'm down two reloads.
