.22 Pistol advice

Conversion kit...

Do you currently have a pistol?

There are conversion kits available for many pistols and they are ideal for learning to handle a pistol prior to "upsizing".
 
I only have one .22 pistol its a Vostok Soviet made target pistol. If you can get one I highly recomend it. I love Ruger products too, but I do not enjoy shooting their semi auto pistols. The .22 single action revolver is exceptionally good, and having a magnum cylinder opens up some fun shooting too. The stainless or blued model shoots like a dream, and you might find your wife enjoys it more than a semi. Let her shoot a few different models before you buy one. Pistols are a very personal thing, and everyone has their own favourites. Best to let her choose.
 
my vote goes to a belgian made browning challenger bought used and in perfect shape for 250.dollars. if you can find a used one in good shape i dont think you will be dissappointed.

I've shot both the Ruger MkII and the S&W 22a. Of the two I preffered the 22A just because it has more life in my hand than the Ruger. This is purely a function of weight. The Ruger being all steel is heavy and that sucks up the recoil. This is good for getting shots on target but for me I like to feel the gun and the Ruger was just too heavy to show strong signs of life when shooting.

Oh, and on the 22A I shot the magazine dropped out just fine. If they stick then it's just a case of finding the tightness and easing it be it.

Another option if you can find one within your time frame is a used S&W 422. I ended up finding and buying a used one and having shot around 100 rounds through it so far I'm more than happy. A great little gun.

All three of the ones mentioned as well as my Tanfoglio Force 22 are way more accurate than I am.

Now this doesn't include a Buckmark since I haven't had the chance to try one.
 
Ruger MkIII heavy barrel. Slap a red dot sight on it and you will not be disappointed. I found that its capable of higher accurxy then the iron sights allowed
 
Look around the EE and also Armco's site for a Ruger Mk. 1, preferably with the bull barrel and target sights; they show up from time to time. The trigger is excellent on these, much better (so I'm told) than the Mk.3. They'll eat any ammo, and they're not expensive.
 
Stay away from the Buckmark.
I had one for one season of league. It was my first pistol. What a POS!!! It cracked behind the rear sight.
Squeeze the trigger "click" squeeze the trigger "click" squeeze again fire... Took it back for repair 3 times and then took it back for good.
Go with the flaming chicken and don't look back.

As mentioned in the thread it's more than the Rugers, S&W 22A or Buckmark. However it's much less than a nice used S&W 41, a Kimber 1911 in .22 or a CZ Kadet. It's pretty close to a Sig Mosquito.

And to now there is absolutely not even a hint of buyers remorse. The Force 22 has been a great gun to shoot and it'll be in my arsenal for a long time to come. If there is any issue it's due to the need to search for suitable ammo and the need to clean it at around 400 rounds. But I've found that .22 is stupidly dirty when shooting it from any semi so the need for relatively frequent cleanings isn't a surprise. And as for the sensitivity to the type of ammo again that's pretty common for any .22 semi. So far it's a champ running with CCI standard velocity.

IIRC the Mk 1 doesn't hold open last shot while the mk 2 and 3 do, that matters to me...
