Hi,

I found these guys in Maine... They take Beretta 68x actions... custom engrave them... custom stocks made of AAA or exhibition English walnut... and then barrel them however you like... all fitted personally... they do the same with Z-guns as well...

The finished product looks incredible... and while more expensive than factory... are still less than I had imagined they would be...

They are called Cole gunsmithing... if you want to google...

The obvious down side is their location south of the border...

Is there a Canadian company that offers a similar service?

Cole is highly spoken of at ShotgunWorld......not aware of any similar full fledged establishment in our part of the world although there are some excellent Gunsmiths here.

Well, they've actually been there on Bog Hollow Road in South Harpswell, Maine for quite a while, and have been prominently advertising for a good number of years in several magazines ... but glad you found them !
I found them too ! ... about 8 or 9 years ago ! ;)

If you like their prices and work, Rich Cole is happy to ship to Canada ... but factor in about 1.275 x the US $ price, and don't forget the GST on the Canadian amount. Add to that, brokerage fees ranging from about $ 275 to $ 500 (depending on who you get to do it for you). Oh yeah, and wait about 8 - 12 weeks.

The good news ... they're only about 8 hours east of you ! :D

Wow....... Not fair beretta boy.. teasing me like that. I have a love of wood, with a nbr of rifles that I bought just for the wood. I heard that Wholesale have a Diamond Pigeon EELL in Calgary. I might take a drive just to take a look. Don't know if you remember me asking for advise a year and a half ago, but I'm hooked. Ended up with a 687 Silver Pigeon II...and proceeded to shoot 13,000 rds last year. Most on five-stand but ended up getting 3rd in "B" class at the Alberta Provincials. (sorry had to brag a bit).
 
I got all of my spare parts for my 391 from Cole's. I'm tempted to have them do a trigger job for me but I'm worried about the export back.

Yes, I do remember.

Now have a look at (www) colegun ( .com) Beretta - Wood Sets
for the 68x guns ... I'm sure you can find something to drool over, and
to "upgrade" your SPll . Some of the wood sets in stock, IMHO, are superior to most of the wood I've seen on the EELL guns I've seen.

Cole's is only 25 minutes or so from LL Bean and about the same from Varney Sporting Clays.

I feel a little "teased" too - every time I talk to a bud from High River, especially when he tells me he's worn out from shooting waterfowl over near Frank Lake, or saddle sore and leg weary from hiking the slopes for elk or sheep ... or he's got a fly rod "cork rash" from too many drifts down the Bow from Policeman's Flats to Carseland when the caddis are hatching or the hopper's are out ! :(

Good shooting by the way. Keep at it ... you'll be out of "B" and into
the shark tank of "A" in no time !!! :D
 
Coles is first rate. I've ordered parts from them and been very happy. The selection of 391 stocks also tempts me on a regular basis. It's a must see if you are in the area.

For this kind of work in Canada I'd suggest Steve Milton at Precision Arms and Gunsmithing in King, Ontario. Another option might be SC Gunworks but I've had work done there and was less than satisfied.
 
beretta boy: Re Cole: 1200.00 U.S (go big or go home) They do take Visa and they do ship to Canada. Ohhhhh what wood. I think my visa is gonna take a hit. Spoke to Bob. Nice man...very helpful. Thanks for the tip..

I have always thought that rich walnut stocks only looked good on breech loading shotguns/rifles and bolt action rifles. :p
