Question for any P.E.I.-ers out there

Alexandra point

Who is in charge of the rifle range at Alexandra point near Pownal. A few years ago I shot pistols at an open house the Caledonia range was hosting there. Also I think there are civilian rifle shooters that currently use it as well. I wonder if it would be possible for a club to use it as it probably is not used 99% of the time.

You may want to look into the police school range as well, they may have a private club or some public hours where you can use their range.

No public use there. Students, staff and select members of the law enforcement community only

The PEI rifle association uses it for long range shooting, not sure who teh contact name is but I know a few of the members.

The indoor range at Slemon park would take at least a few hundred thousand to meet today's air quality standards. There was also a range at the mountie barracks and the PEI Regiment building downtown, none are active as far as I know due to ventilation issues.

I'll have to find this Going Fishing place.

Leo closed his shop in Savage Harbour & the website has been static for months. So if anyone has any money with him, you should probably give him a call.

Where exactly wouldn't have a municipality? I don't really understand that stuff.

Going Fishing is at the Ellis Bros mall on St. Peters Rd

There is nothing worth while for shooting on the island except of course waterfowl and coyotes.

Every time I visit I am filled with reasons why I left. The socialist whiner attitude is so thick there it makes me gag. They are so socialist they don't see an other way. And most don't know what socialism is.

The gov't has it nose so far into everyone's business that if you fart you'll get a letter from the premier.

Good luck to you, my house in Ch'town is for sale. Wanna buy it off me?

I spent a couple years of high school up there and I can easily agree that the small town mentality is a little thick. But for the most part people were really nice, and I'm the kind of guy who keeps a pretty low profile to begin with so I don't anticipate those kinds of problems.

I will definitely try the farting thing when I get there though. I'll be sure to eat a ton of cabbage during my first week and we'll see how it pans out :D

While I do kinda like it here and have never had the balls to leave. I do agree with you. lotsa whiners, lotsa sense of entitlement but also a lot of sense of community etc. As a whole Islander tend to feel as though we are way more important than we really are, most don't realize how insignificant we are.

@ lone-wolf: I'm moving there to attend the U.

Just my luck to come from a place like California where you can buy a pistol with a driver's license, a clear record, and a 10 day waiting period back to PEI where there's such a small shooting community. I'll bet the pistol ammo is gonna run a pretty penny as well!

Coulda been worse though - I could've spent the last nine years in Texas or AZ and been completely ruined for any kind of gun legislation. To date I haven't fired a .50 cal, and I'm almost glad of it - don't know if I could go back to the more standard stuff after that!

Thanks for the replies though, guys. I'm def gonna look into the indoor range at the old base. I'll bet they've been dragging their heels on re-zoning it so that might be an in for us.

At least the waiting period here is usually about 9 days shorter... I had a pistol transfer done in under an hour more than once.

I was a member of Kings County for years when I lived there. Pretty basic but not overly busy. Gun stores there seem to only last a few years there because the owners can't seem to keep out of trouble.

I like PEI and go back every summer. I'd live there if I had enough money to keep a house where I am now so that I could hunt big game, waterfowl and escape the socialist smog when needed.

No Joy with Alexandria Point.

You can join the PEI rifle association and shoot long guns there but you would not be able to get the range for another club. Provincial Rifle associations are covered by old National Defence Act to use ranges. No new clubs would be considered. As for Ranges at Slemon Park I think the old indoor range has been taken apart and the Slemon Park Corp. would want a lot of money to open it up again. Miscouche or Caledonia are the only options now for restricted.

When I lived in PEI i belonged to the CFB Summerside Rifle and Revolver Club, they were closed when the base closed and I have no idea of anywhere in Prince County that has a range anymore

There is one in the woods behind Miscouche, but it could be described as semi-private.

hmmm

it must be new. back when they resided all the CFB Summerside buildings in alluminum siding we were down at the 25 meter outdoor range shooting FN C1`s on a Sunday afternoon. A bunch of MPs showed up yelling cease fire. They had ricochet reports pouring into the shack. Turns out the new siding was acoustically bouncing the sound all over the base. was pretty funny at the time
