Looking to buy a bolt action .22 with a detachable mag, what does everyone suggest? looking for something that isn't going to break the bank and want something that is fairly accurate.

Lakefield Mossberg Mark II......great target and varmint gun. I shoot mine out to 200 yards.

Look at the Savage and the Marlin rifles and see how they fit you. You can also watch this sight for a good used one. I have been quite a few lately.

Bud, I'll tell you the same thing I tell everyone else. Don't cheap out on your .22 rifle. Your going to spend a $1000 on a hunting rifle and scope and shoot it the least of all your guns every year. Meanwhile your .22 will see the most rounds of all your guns together. I shoot thousands upon thousands of .22 rounds every year. Trust me, it's an investment you'll be proud you made.

As for guns, I would suggest the Savage MKII as your starting point. A good midrange rifle is the CZ 452/453 and the Browning T-bolt. Higher up, the Kimber (Now discontinued) and Cooper. Have fun shopping.

Yes but accuracy is hit and miss. More hunting rifle then precision shooter.

Listen to pharaoh2. Get one with a similar feel and balance to your hunting rifle and you'll really see impressive improvements.

Marlin Bolt action 22's are good $value many configurations to choose from SS. H.B. wood synthetic They have been making the same basic version since the 1960's Weak point are there triggers but they can be worked over.

I just purchased a Savage MkII FSS, and cant wait to try it out, It's my first actual rifle. And i've spent ALOT of time reading the last couple of weeks about them.

Marlins were also in the list of what i was looking at.

I have two ruger 77/22's one is deadly accurate and has never given me any greif in the twenty years I've had it. The other is a couple years newer and probably hasn't seen half the use but it has had some issues. Miss fires, not near as accurate. Incedently the better one is blued with composite stock and the other one is stainless.

I agree CZ is excellent value and very consistent in performance. Probably the best overall choice in spite of Savage,Marlin and Ruger fans.
Ruger 77/22 (the wood stock) feels good but consistency is more miss than hit!

When I purchased a CZ 452 Lux it was a deliberate decision as 2x $ some other .22s but found it well worth it. Has open sights so good to learn with also takes a scope and is accurate so not get bored with it.

If money is tight get a marlin, but my CZ 452 american made me a rimfire fan, it's pretty close to perfect for not much more money.
Just a heads up there's a CZ american for sale in the EE, along with a few other good deals, it's a large thread, should be easy to find.
