Converting a VZ-58 to 5.45x39

There was a 5.45 x 39 AK in the EE a few weeks ago. If anyone remembers the member who was offering it you might be able to get him to turn it to a dewat or study it.

that was a bastard child..a Norinco receiver with East german parts on it and probably a bulgarian barrel...it didn't come into the country that way.....a working factory AK74 or AKS-74U never came into Canada for sale to indiviuals.

Can you find a 5.45 barrel in Canada..... sure anything is almost possible, but its few and far between....

-Machine new bolt(I'm a tool and die maker) and reduce bolt face to new bas diam.

I would buy one from you if you decided to make 2.
I could help you acquire a barrel and mag to help offset the cost as well.

looked at this project also, couldn't find a chamber reamer anywhere. you can get ready made AR uppers from Olympic for 5.45x39. my thoughts where to use a standard 22cal barrel. for coverting an AR its just getting a reamer for the cartrige in question and opening up the extracter for the thicker rim of the 5.45, followers and ready made mags are all ready available for sale and can be shipped in. it sucks to see how our American friends get all the good stuf to shoot and the cheap fodder. while we have regressed to a society overwhelmed by governing laws and taxes remenicent of the 1800's. maybe its time again to stop being bullied by the "governments" in power and show them that its the people with the power and not the governments we so unwillingly put in office.
sorry just ranting, but maybe its time for us to desolve parliment and remove the power from ottawa

Just came back from the states.. that cheap fodder you were talking about.. No more. at least I never saw any. I think the buying frenzy has raised alot of prices..
Try asking marstar nicly if they can get you a barrel. Or maybe questar if they can get you one for an ar15.
The bolt , I am sure you could weld it up and turn it on a lathe.
The mag should be easy enough to get a norinco .223 magazine, and modify that. Or if you want to spend the buck find a galil mag.
