So I'm upgrading my glass on my remington sendero in 300 win mag to more of a "tactical" scope. At the moment I have a 4.5-14x40 VXIII and however I do like it, I would like to have something with some tactical turrets and a better retical.
So I'm looking at two right now and having a difficult time choosing. the one being a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 in the varmint retical. the other being the Leupold VXIII 6.5-20x50 in also the varmint retical.
I like the Zeiss because hey, its a Zeiss and have never had the chance to shoot one but herd excellent things. But on the other hand Leupolds have a warrenty thats pretty hard to beat.
If anyone could give me a some opinions I'm open to them, and perhaps some other options that I have not seen yet. thanks for your help.
 
I believe you could have your existing Leupold fixed up with a new reticle and turrets at their service centre in Alberta. I haven't used them but I have heard good things about them. I'm sure there are a few guys on here that could give a first hand account.
 
Korth Agencies in Okotoks AB does really good work and, relative to what is needed, fast turn-around. Contact info is on Leupold website.
 
Ya I guess I could ship it away and get it modified. But I'm thinking that I'm leaning toward the Zeiss, after a bit of more reasearch it looks like the grander scope, but not by much.
 
fwiw the varmint reticle on the leupold scopes is particularily awesome
i have slowly been changing all my centerfires to that style i find it very easy to use and setup for distance shooting (my biggest rifle with is 308win so take that into account)...

No were getting a new scope for you and if it's in stock then it should be here this week or next. Phil.

You should have the VXIII modified for externally adjustable turrets and a mildot reticle :cool:.

Had a high end Zeiss spotting scope that needed repair and it took 6 months to get back. Also on a precision rifle crse a few yrs back, a happy as a peacock shooter had a top of the line custom rifle with a new Zeiss (German made) scope that went tits up on the first day. The now somewhat embarrassed owner had to finish the crse with a loaner Leupold scope that performed flawlessly. Also on a sidenote, with several very expensive customs rigs being used, the top shooter used a stock Remington Police model with a Leupold Mark 4 scope with M3 turrets. Zeiss has a good reputation, overrated in my opinion, especially what you pay for them. They do break just like anything man made can.
 
So I was in wholesale today looking at some Zeiss scopes just to get another opinion on them. Which turned out to be a bad idea, but anyways. So I saw that the elevation turret was not square, so after playing wiih it a little I found out that it was cross threaded or something. so I think that my view of zeiss came down a little.
 
EC my Zeiss Conquest scopes were about $100 less than the comparable Leupold VXIII. How is that overpriced? Better reticle (Rapid Z), and no lash issues with the parallax adjustment.

Have the costs recently gone up more than the Leupold scopes?

I am talking about a high end Zeiss sniper scope vs a Mark 4, not a hunting scope. The guy who paid alot more, much more for his Zeiss than a Mark 4 that went down on the first day of the crse I mentioned would beg to differ. If I got to wait 6 months to get a top of the line spotting scope back for repair, considering what it cost, I would say it's overpriced.
