Supply and demand, since no one makes NEW SKS anymore, all supplies are drying up. I pickup a unissued Norc in early 90s for less than $150, and my recent purchase of Refurbished Russian SKS cost $250 plus tax.

In the last October I having been a hard time selling my unfired CZ 858 for 600$ on EE,and now people are willing to pay 700$ for a used one.

the industry has been turned upside down recently so uncertainty has pushed up prices higher ... i see the russian SKS going alot higher by same time next year .

Picked up two Russian Tulas for $200 (each - thanks Mossman) yesterday. A 1953 refurb with complete markings and a very clean 1956 with an almost perfect, little used rifle bore. Apparantly there are some shipments that have arrived so contact your favorite gun dealer as most of them are aware of this. Lotsa cheap Czech surplus ammo too!!!

I think Rottboy means that he got two rifles for $200 each - probably the very nice refurbs that were just received at Lever Arms. It looks like prices have been pretty stable lately - 200-250 for good refurbs, around 300 for unissued or otherwise nice non refurbs. Lever also is selling 1120 rounds for $180, which seems like a good deal. They also sell two larger size cases, but curiously offer no price incentive to buy the bigger crates - price per round comes out almost exactly the same no matter what size you buy.
